Got to do a small dining room area in Burlington here. We used Loba Invisible waterbase which is meant to look exactly like raw wood. You can see the color of the existing floor in the bottom of the picture. Really a stunner! Thanks Dale and Paula!

Got to install and sand some red oak here to match their existing wood. They wanted the floor to be dark but also block the pinks in RO. So we mixed some stain with green in it to neutralize the red. Thanks Lexi and Nathan!

Small sand & finish of some maple this past week. Maple with a Glitsa conversion varnish is always one of my favorites. It really brings out the depth of the grain and allows you to see the iridescence of every burl and piece of birds-eye (one of my favorite features of maple). Thanks Audrey and Gil!

Side note: Shout out to Brian and Steff Schweppe as we used the maple we pulled out of his house to patch in flooring where the green piece of plywood was. When we ripped the maple out of their house, we found a newspaper being used as a subfloor leveler with the year 1928 on it. Old maple is a near impossibility to match accurately due to color change but when they are both near 100 years old it is a step in the right direction!

Going to talk about one of our failures here. 2 weeks ago, we were tasked with staining 847 feet of American Cherry flooring and a set of stairs with a Duraseal Jacobean stain. We went through a standard sanding process like we would on most jobs, finishing with 120 grit on the buffer. We went to put stain on the floor and I turned to my apprentice Jaime and said ”This looks effing horrible.” (I may have said the real word 🤪). So, I called the homeowner and explained that some species of wood don’t do well with a normal sanding process and that I would like to resand the floor using a different sanding sequence that I think would give us a better result. We modified the sanding sequence to get the floor flat and at the end, we put paper on a block and block-sanded every square inch of the floor by hand. I think the results speak for themselves. The pictures with blotchy wood were from the first time around and the more even chocolate color was from our resand of our own work. The stain color is Jacobean both times. Please if you have a species that doesn’t take stain well such as cherry, maple, Douglas fir, or birch, and you want it stained, give us a call. We will do whatever it takes to get a satisfactory result for you.

These 4” hickory floors had seen better days. We got them sanded down and coated with Glitsa Conversion Varnish. Still the best finish on the market no matter what the water-based finish manufacturers say. Thanks Nick and Jess!
