🇺🇸 ✈️ 🇩🇪 From Burnsville to Bremen

Carolina Native Nursery’s Bill Jones was recently in Germany as part of the LEAP Project (Labor, Efficiency, Automation, and Production), joining nursery professionals and university researchers from across the United States to explore how automation is shaping the future of nursery production.

Over five days, the group visited 12 nurseries throughout northern Germany, learning how growers are using technology to improve efficiency, conserve resources, and support their workforce while continuing to produce exceptional plants.

But this wasn't just a fact-finding mission.

Carolina Native is also participating in a two-year LEAP case study examining the real-world impacts of automation in nursery operations. By comparing our last fully hand-potted season with our current automated processes, we’re helping gather valuable data on productivity, inventory management, labor utilization, and return on investment that will benefit growers across the industry.

Whether it’s seeing thousands of seedlings destined for reforestation projects, evaluating cutting-edge equipment, or exchanging ideas with nursery professionals from around the world, every stop was an opportunity to bring new knowledge home to Western North Carolina.

Some plants are subtle. The Annabelle hydrangea is not one of them. 😄

Prized for its reliability and easy-going nature, this classic native-friendly shrub thrives in part shade and returns year after year with very little fuss.

And when those massive white blooms arrive, they tend to steal the show.

Celebrate America’s 250th by Helping to Restore Native Landscapes 🌱🎇

Long before there were highways, lawns, and neighborhoods, native plants supported birds, bees, butterflies, and the people of this land. Native plants connect Americans to the land's natural heritage.

In many parts of our country the endemic landscape creates the beauty that people recognize and enjoy every time they look out the window, gaze up at the mountains as they drive down the highway, or stop as a bear crosses the road. It is not taken for granted.

Carolina Native grows the beautiful native plants you can plant outside your window. We can help with friendly advice for you to succeed. Whether you're a home gardener that needs help getting started, an experienced gardener that is looking for something different to fill in a couple spots, or a landscape professional who recognizes a natural landscape fitting in the local ecosystems works best, allow us to help.

The landscapes we leave behind matters
and will be part of our living heritage.

His sleigh has been upgraded to a Kubota, and instead of delivering presents, he’s delivering blueberries, coneflowers, and habitat for pollinators.

Recognize. Remove. Replace. 🌱🌸

It’s one of the simplest ways you can make a positive impact on the state we love.

Invasive plants may look attractive, but many spread aggressively beyond our yards, crowding out native species, reducing biodiversity, and disrupting the natural habitats that support birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

Native plants, on the other hand, belong here. They have evolved alongside our local ecosystems for thousands of years, making them better equipped to support native bees, butterflies, birds, and beneficial insects. They also tend to require less maintenance, less water, and fewer inputs once established.

At Carolina Native Nursery, you’ll find plants that are not only beautiful but welcomed with North Carolina hospitality. From flowering perennials and pollinator favorites to shrubs, trees, grasses, and groundcovers, our plants are ready to help your landscape thrive naturally.

Come see us in and grow what belongs here. 🌿
