Those cutouts aren't shamrocks. If you look closely at the steel trusses in this conservatory, you'll spot clover-shaped cutouts throughout. Most people assume they're a nod to shamrocks. They're actually symbolic of the four directions: north, east, south, and west. A detail this intentional is what happens when a project has years of thought behind it.

Most rusted-look steel is Corten, designed to rust on the surface outdoors. But Corten doesn't perform the same way indoors. So for this conservatory, our team used mild steel instead, carefully worked to achieve the same aged, weathered character our client wanted, right inside the room. It's a small material choice with a big impact.

Three interconnected structures, one extraordinary conservatory. 🌿 Designed as one cohesive architectural space, this custom conservatory centers around a resistance therapy pool beneath a skylight, with adjoining plant rooms that extend the botanical experience throughout.

This limestone traveled three countries before it reached Minneapolis!

The cornice detail wrapping the top of this conservatory started as limestone selected in Germany, chosen for its color and density, which allow it to hold its shape for decades.

From Germany, the limestone traveled to China, where it was custom-shaped, before making its way to Minneapolis for installation.

This gorgeous cornice is just one example of the thought and intention behind every detail that came together to create this incredible masterpiece. 🤩

For the steel, we went straight to the source. 🔨 To design the steel structure of this conservatory, our team visited the Chelsea Flower Show in London, not once, but twice, before landing at Kew Gardens. 🌿 The way steel was used there became the blueprint for the room you see here.

Steel by steel, this conservatory came together piece by piece. Every beam you see here was designed, fabricated, and assembled with one goal: to build something that hadn’t been done before.

When we sat down to design this conservatory, our client had three very different requests. His wife wanted the timber detail of the Biltmore Conservatory in Asheville. He wanted a pool he could swim in daily. And he wanted steel, the old, rusted, weathered kind. Three ideas that don't naturally live in one room. So we didn't put them in one room. We designed three connected structures instead.
