Emergency removal of an uprooting red oak with the Sennebogen 718. The grapple saw allowed us to bring the tree down safely without putting a climber in harm’s way or subjecting the failing root system to rigging forces in a location that would have been difficult to access with a crane. Thanks to Cameron for the photos and technical support.

Cabling and bracing can be an excellent way to manage risk from damaged or structurally compromised trees without requiring a full removal. This black locust developed a split between two codominant tops, significantly increasing the likelihood of failure and damage to the pottery studio below. This was a special tree for the owner and therefore not a candidate for removal. The cable and bolts allowed us to reduce the risk and keep the tree. Please reach out if you’d like to have your trees evaluated by a Tree Risk Assessment Qualified arborist.

Meet the Sennebogen 718 grapple saw. This specialty piece of equipment will bring efficiency to our operations and allow us to take down hazardous trees more safely. This is the tool we didn’t know we needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. We’re ready to be a much more effective storm response resource for our community with it in our toolbox. Thanks to Cameron for these photos of us removing a hollow red oak overhanging the road and a codominant maple overhanging the roof of a home.

Please don’t top your trees. This is an outdated practice that destroys the natural aesthetics and structural integrity of a tree. If it doesn’t kill the tree, topping causes vigorous stress response growth unsafely anchored to decaying branches. Topping generates more business for tree companies with increased ongoing maintenance requirements and eventual removal of the unhealthy and unsafe tree. If you are concerned about a tree, please contact an ISA Certified Arborist to discuss alternative management options.
