Building a custom home? Don't let paint be an afterthought, and don't stop at picking colors. 🏡
After 25+ years finishing new construction across West Michigan, the question we wish more homeowners asked early is about sheen, not just color. Sheen is what decides how a wall wears and how a room actually feels. A quick rule of thumb for a new build:
• Ceilings — flat, so light doesn't telegraph every seam
• Bedrooms and living rooms — matte or eggshell that hides drywall imperfections but still wipes clean
• Kitchens, baths, and mudrooms — eggshell to satin, so moisture and little handprints clean right off
• Trim and doors — satin or semi-gloss, sprayed, for that crisp factory look that takes the daily bumps
Get the sheen plan right up front and your finish looks sharp AND holds up for years, especially in the rooms your family actually lives in.
