He quietly took off his coat to give to a man on a bitter cold New York City street. That left Robbie without a coat.
He slid on a pair of muck boots, walked through the mud and fertilizer of a pasture field so he could invite someone’s husband to church.
He bought a suit to give to a young man who was atheist because the young man said he would go to church if he had a suit.
At the Fe India orphanage, he helped found, they called him, “friend to the friendless”, “father to the fatherless”, “pastor to the helpless”.
I called him brother, a man as much like Jesus as anyone I’ve known.

Isa. 57:1
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

The American Elm tree is a piece of American heritage. Unfortunately the population nation wide has been decimated by the Dutch Elm’s Disease aka DED. If you have one of these beauties there are a few things you can do to help protect them.

1.) Keep Dead Wood Cleared Away:
The first easiest thing you can do is to keep all the dead branches cleared away. DED is spread primarily by a bark beetle. Keeping their food source cleared away is the first easiest step.

2.) Proper Pruning:
When it comes to American Elm trees timing is critical. Pruning should only be done while the beetles are dormant, late fall to early spring. Try to avoid trimming after the end of March when the beetles come out hungry for some elm bark. After this only emergency trimming should be done.

3.) Pay Attention:
This may seem like a no brainer but our trees grow while we work, eat and sleep. Then one day you look up and your tree is in trouble. If you want an expert evaluation call Ray’s Tree Service LLC (270) 465-6154. In most cases there is no charge for consultation.

4.) Lastly Removal:
Sadly after DED has progressed very significantly there is usually no saving the tree. If you have other elms close by (within 300 yards) you may have to remove the infected tree to save the others. If the trees are in close proximity the disease can be spread through the roots.

Let Ray’s Tree Service LLC help you save your little part of history. Spread the word. Lets save our elms!

Treemendous Since 1976

Ray’s Tree Service was founded in Chicago IL in 1976 by Orville Smith. About 1983 Orville moved his operations to Campbellsville KY. That’s when the name Ray’s Tree Service was adopted. In 2013 after 40 years of service in the tree care industry Orville was ready to retire. The company was sold to Brian Spencer. For the next three years Orville remained active with the company as a mentor/consultant training and advising the staff. In 40 years he gained a lot of knowledge!

Today Ray’s Tree Service, owned and operated by Brian Spencer and son Chadwick Spencer, is still providing professional tree service to Central KY. Orville is still available if the need arises for advice on complicated projects.
