We still have a few Northern Sun Forsythia left in 3 gallon pots. Although this year’s bloom has long past, these beauties will brighten up your landscape next year. This University of Minnesota cultivar performs particularly well in our long, cold North Country springs.
We are open today (Sunday, May 24), until 4 pm, and tomorrow (Monday, May 25), 10 am to 4 pm.

Which one smells the best? We get this question a lot, and it’s tough to answer, as everyone’s sense of smell is just a little bit different. But here are some consistent fragrance favorites: Dwarf Korean, Miss Kim, Montaigne, Mount Baker, Common Purple and President Grevy

We are open this weekend if you want to come smell the lilacs. Dwarf Korean and Miss Kim aren’t open yet, but all the others have blooms you can sniff to find your preference. Hours: Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, Sunday, 12 pm to 4 pm and Monday (Memorial Day), 10 am to 4 pm

I am on my way to the International Lilac Society Conference in Quebec City and took the opportunity to stop by the Montreal Botantical Garden to see who was there.

I had a wonderful time seeing old friends like Katherine Havemeyer and President Grevy and meeting some new lilac friends like Bright Centenial and Rhum von Horstenstein.

What a difference some sunshine makes! We have three new bloomers today: Cheyenne (oblata), a single blue with a very vigorous growth habit and excellent disease resistance. Sweetheart, whose dark pink buds open to double-petaled flowers that start out pastel pink and fade to almost white, for a multicolored effect. And President Lincoln, our first blooming vulgaris (or common lilac). He is one of the bluest of the blue lilacs, and one of the three lilacs that got us started out as lilac lovers.
