Barbara and Steve Schoenith are our customers of the month. We painted the exterior of their lovely home in Van Buren Township. The Schoeniths live on my street and have the same floor plan as we do except reversed.

I am friends with their son, Terry, who helped me with some electrical work in my basement. It has been a joy to get to know them.

We painted their trim is a beautiful color that contrasted well with the vinyl siding and brick, which gave the home a stronger three-dimensional feel and increased its curb appeal.

Thank you Barbara and Steve for trusting us with your painting needs!

My Dad - My Hero!

Because Father's Day falls in June, I wanted to honor my Dad in this newsletter. This picture of my dad, Gary Moore, taken a couple years before he passed away, shows him standing in front of the one room house where he was born in Auburn town, Tennessee in 1931.

In these humble beginnings his family etched out a very limited existence on a small farm. Eventually he joined the Army serving during the Korean War. He was always so proud of his country and his time in the military.

Dad became part of the huge migration from the South to find work in the booming economy driven by the automobile industry. He eventually got his engineering degree from Eastern Michigan University and worked for Ford Motor Company for 32 years. We were definitely a Ford family!

Two things about my Dad make him a real hero to me besides the fact that he was a man of great character and hard work, First, he was amazingly compassionate. He loved people and they knew it. He had a knack for great questions and a patient capacity for listening. He and my mom, Ella, oozed hospitality. Literally THOUSANDS of people came to our home in Romulus. Some came to live for a season. Others came for parties, Bible studies, family holidays, mentoring/counseling. Everyone was welcome!

The second reason my Dad is my hero is because of his great love for the Bible - God's Word to us. He loved God and the Bible was his life's manual. I remember early one morning walking past their bedroom and seeing my Dad kneeling before a chair with his head bowed in prayer with an open Bible before him. This was his normal routine, not a crisis intervention action.

Dad was a Gideon. If you have ever seen a Bible in your hotel room, it was put there by an organization called The Gideons International. This worldwide group raised money and distributed Bibles to hotels, nurses, college students and people entering the military. He served in the Gideons for decades because he knew the truth found in the Bible was the hope of the world.

Gary Moore left a lifetime legacy of love for God and compassion for people. He is a hero to me, my brothers and his children's children.

CUSTOMER OF THE MONTH

May's customer of the month is actually an interconnected string of customers. The following group of people are very special to Moore Painting Company because they are great people and they have been very kind to us.

Meet the Nader Clan!

The first job we did was for Rob Nader. I met him because we worked out at Jake's House of Iron in Canton, MI. Rob connected me to his sister, Darlene Deeg and her husband Joe, where we painted three different projects. Next, we painted for their son, Bradley Deeg in his newly acquired condo in Plymouth. What followed was an interior and deck job for Rob and Darlene's parents, Bob and Barbara Nader.
They introduced us to their friends.

We ended up painting an entire condo interior for Ed and Georgette Mourad in Ann Arbor and then a deck for George Darany in Plymouth. Joe Deeg introduced us to Ken O'Sullivan for whom we did two projects. Ken connected us with Larry Schmidt and Larry to Dapo Adewusi. Most recently we were referred by Darlene to Felicia and Jeff who live in their neighborhood.

This set of relationships have immense value to us. Something we treasure! Thank you all so much!

EXTREME MAKEOVER!

We love what we do! There is a critical moment in the process of painting that gives the greatest sense of satisfaction. A homeowner walks into a room for the first time after we are done painting and says, "WOW!".

Nowhere does that happen more powerfully than when we paint kitchen cabinets. Painting kitchen cabinets brings the biggest transformation than any other project that we do.

We recently did a cabinet job that converted kitchen cabinets that were chocolate brown into Benjamin Moore color Dove White. The kitchen island we painted withHale Navy. It turned out spectacular. The homeowners had gone out of town and gave us access to their house during their absence. They got the full transformation "reveal" when they walked in after their trip. They were so excited. They said, "It was like we walked into a new kitchen!".

Here are three great reasons why people choose to paint their cabinets.
1. Change the Feel of a Room. Painting a kitchen can change the look of the room, but painting the cabinets shifts the whole feel of the room. A white or creamy color will brighten the kitchen and give it a renewed sense of life.

2. Less Expensive Than Replacing Cabinets.A total tear out and replacement of cabinets is a very expensive endeavor. A moderate size kitchen can cost $15,000-$25,000. We can repaint a moderate size kitchen for between $2000-$4000.

3. New Products are Excellent. Technology keeps developing incredible products for cabinet painting. It's very important to use the best, most durable paints for cabinets. Of any painted parts of a home, cabinets get the most wear and tear. To make sure we get the best long-term results we take great care in preparing the cabinets by cleaning and lightly sanding. Then we apply a super glue primer to ensure the first coat has rock solid adherence to the wood. We then apply at least two coats of top line products of alkyd paint that are specifically engineered for cabinets. These are water-based paints that harden like an oil-based paint but without the yucky smell. Mostly we use Benjamin Moore ADVANCE or COMMAND self-leveling paints.

The doors and drawers head to an offsite location where they are painted with a sprayer that gives them a beautiful, smooth, and luxurious finish.

We would love to transform your kitchen!

One of the favorite things that we love to do at More Painting Company is transform a kitchen by transforming the cabinets. These cabinets were a chocolate brown until we painted them in the Benjamin Moore color Dove White using Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane semi-gloss. The peninsula color Hale Navy creates a beautiful contrast to the soft white.
