We are a small native plant nursery who only use organic and sustainable methods to grow plants that are a part of our vulnerable ecosystem. We believe native plants are superior in their abilities to contribute to their environment. Plants that are native have co-evolved over thousands of years with native insects and are uniquely able to sustain life by playing a part in the delicate web of life

. We also believe that plants that have been grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or insecticides are better for the environment and are better contributors since they are free of chemicals that can harm the very insects and fauna we are trying to protect. We are excited to be a part of the growing native plant movement and want to help others learn about and understand the necessity of planting natives.

Sooooo scary!! 🐛🐍

(No, they don’t bite. No they’re not really scary.)

Finally caught it on video! 🐛 What is this Spicebush swallowtail caterpillar doing? If you’re familiar with these babies you know they roll themselves up into a leaf to hide out during the day. It is one of their protective mechanisms along with mimicry markings they use to appear like a small snake. What this little friend is doing is spreading silk on the leaf and as the silk dries it causes the leaf to curl over them. Sounds cozy doesn’t it?

If you want to see these adorable caterpillars turn into beautiful blue and black spicebush butterflies in your garden, you’re gonna need to plant spicebush or sassafras because that is their host plant. Yes, we have both plants for sale (but we keep the caterpillars). 🥰

The 2026 growing season has been turned upside down. 🙃 April was the driest April on record since the 1890s and with the heat and drought a lot of plants just would not budge. However, now we are in an amazing new weather pattern with lots of rain and moderate temperatures which makes for some really healthy, fast-growing plants. JUNE looks to be better for planting than April was! Weird. But, the good news is we finally have some much awaited plants ready to go- beautyberry, coral honeysuckle, milkweed, blue mist flower, lobelias, etc. Still growing out the passion flower so another week or two on those but they’re finally growing! So come and see us and support your local native plant nursery.

Below in order- Cecropia caterpillars defoliated a Halesia and it’s just fine with me!, flower fly on butterfly milkweed, stokesia, Annabell hydrangea, coreopsis, a very well-travelled monarch.

Catalpa bignonoides (Southern Catalpa) are blooming and they are soooooo beautiful! This tree really is overlooked and underappreciated considering the show it puts on. It’s a fast-growing and hardy shade tree. The largest and most beautiful tree I’ve ever seen is in my neighbor’s yard. One day I’m gonna stop and get picks because it is enormous. We hope to have more for sale this fall. Stay tuned!

This precious green frog (Lithobates clamitans) made themselves comfy among the Venus flytrap and sarracenia this morning. I love the endearing expression of “go away human I’m barely tolerating you” that only an amphibian can give.

Amphibians are a great indicator species of how healthy an ecosystem is. Their permeable skin absorbs chemicals in the environment and they are therefore greatly affected by pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals in our landscapes. If you aren’t seeing frogs and other amphibians in your yard, ask yourself what the deeper meaning of this may be. Lack of water and habitat, pesticide and fertilizer runoff from lawns, mosquito fogging, and other introduced chemicals are all highly toxic to amphibians (and humans).

Due to the current drought conditions we have been putting out water and building wildlife ponds for our little friends. They are an easy addition to your garden with lots of impact and you’ll start seeing the results of adding water quickly! ❤️🐸❤️
