This kind of stuff drives me nuts. Helping a buddy out on a Sunday with what I thought was simply adding 16” of wall to hide a door and relocate some electrical. Turns out it was a load bearing nightmare full of shoddy electrical work.
I had (incorrectly) assumed those who had come before me did an acceptable job and framed it the way I would’ve. And a competent inspector maybe inspected it. Nope. 4 hours later and it is properly rebuilt and corrected.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t sleep knowing I did something wrong and let it slide. It doesn’t take much more time to do it the right way so why wouldn’t you? I tell myself and my guys “do it like you’re doing it for yourself or your mother and you’ll never have a problem.”
