1. Flush your cold-water lines
Run your cold taps for 5–10 minutes, starting with the lowest faucet.

2. Flush your toilets

3. Refresh your water heater
Allow fresh water to cycle through the system.

4. Still noticing an odor?

Is your softener quietly slacking off?

Meet the salt bridge, one of the sneakiest softener problems out there.

Here's what happens: a hard crust forms across the salt in your brine tank, creating an air gap underneath. The tank looks full, but the salt isn't actually reaching the water, so your softener stops softening, and hard water creeps back in.

The fix is usually simple: break up the crust, refill, and soft water returns. If it keeps happening, something deeper may need a look.
