The General John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro is dedicated to preserving the life and legacy of John A. Logan. Established in 1989 on or near the site of Logan’s birthplace, the museum serves as an educational resource for local history, the Civil War, and 19th-century American politics.

The museum highlights Logan’s remarkable journey from his boyhood in southern Illinois to becoming a Union Army general, U.S. Senator, and the leader credited with establishing Memorial Day as a national day of remembrance.

White & Borgognoni Architects P.C. is proud to assist with this meaningful project and celebrate the ribbon cutting of an institution that continues to honor the region’s rich history and national legacy.

Woody Hall was originally constructed in 1953 as a women’s residence hall and was converted to office use in 1968. Although its function changed, only minor renovations were completed over the following five decades. The approximately 99,000-square-foot building primarily served as office space for various student services. With the completion of the Student Services Building in 2013 and the relocation of Enrollment Management departments, an opportunity emerged to comprehensively renovate Woody Hall.

In 2012, the Board of Trustees approved the renovation project. The initial scope focused on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) system upgrades, along with window replacement. However, during the design phase, the Administration reassessed the building’s future use and expanded the scope to include the installation of a new elevator in the south wing, as well as ADA accessibility improvements and health and life safety upgrades.

Construction was completed in spring 2021.
