Our industry has suffered a massive loss this week 💔
-
The Tenji team extends our sincere condolences to Tim's friends, family, and the entire Cairns Marine team.
It is with heavy hearts that Cairns Marine confirms Timothy Bennett failed to surface after a technical dive on a rebreather in a remote location in the Coral Sea on Monday the 15th of December 2025.
Tim was undertaking a short reconnaissance dive of only 3 hours to survey a site for suitability. Tim was carrying 2 bailout bottles of trimix and had staged a third bottle of air at an appropriate depth. Tim had serviced the rebreather unit the day before the dive.
After Tim failed to surface at the designated time, Emergency response procedures were initiated immediately. Relevant authorities and emergency services were notified and searches were conducted in-water, topside, and by air.
The crew of the Vessel Clearwater are to be commended for their outstanding performance throughout.
Tim is a longstanding member of the Cairns Marine community since 2004, and is recognised worldwide for his professionalism and experience within the industry. Tim's contribution to all is irreplaceable.
The incident is subject to ongoing investigation by the appropriate authorities. Cairns Marine is cooperating fully and is providing support to those affected.
