Leaking tank out. Clean copper in. 🔥💧🔧

When a water heater starts leaking from the tank itself, replacement is usually the next step—and if we’re installing a new one, we want the finished product to look GOOD.

🔧 Behind-the-scenes plumbing that actually matters: Jaden was out on a call today doing it right instead of doing it fast.

Before touching the water heater, he hooked a gauge up to the hose spigot to check the home's water pressure — because a bad PRV (pressure-reducing valve) can quietly wreck a brand new water heater if nobody checks it first. Pressure looked good, so next up was the expansion tank. Instead of automatically replacing it (and charging you for a part you don't need), Jaden tested it, confirmed it still had proper pre-charge, and reused it. ✅

Then came the fun part — wedging a new 50-gallon Bradford White into a seriously tight corner. 😅 Not exactly a walk-in closet install, but that's what we're here for. In it went, tested, and ready to deliver hot water for years.

This is the difference between a plumber who swaps parts and one who actually diagnoses the system (even when the space is fighting them the whole way).

Old cast iron doesn’t last forever. 😬🔧

Our ExpertPipe Indy team was called out to this Indianapolis home for a leaking drain, and once we got into it, the problem was pretty clear—the old cast iron piping had deteriorated and was actively leaking.

With older cast iron, years of corrosion can eventually weaken the pipe enough to cause cracks, holes and leaks. Sometimes what looks like a small leak from the outside is a sign that a larger section of the drain is reaching the end of its useful life.

Instead of putting a temporary patch on failing pipe, we identified the affected section and gave the homeowner options for a proper, long-term repair.

🚨 We’ve seen some interesting water heater installs… but this one was WILD.

Our ExpertPipe Indy team came across this setup in Indianapolis, and there were problems right from the start.

The wrong type of water heater had been installed for the application, and the exhaust/venting setup didn’t match the requirements of the unit. A power-vent water heater relies on a fan to move combustion gases through an approved venting system—it shouldn’t simply be treated like a standard atmospheric-vent gas tank.

This wasn’t about making the installation look prettier. Improper venting on a gas-fired appliance can create a serious safety concern.

We removed the incorrect setup and installed the appropriate water heater with the venting configured correctly for the new unit. 🔥🔧

This is also why we recommend having questionable plumbing work checked by a licensed professional. Just because a water heater is producing hot water doesn’t necessarily mean it was installed correctly.

Another old cast iron drain replaced by the ExpertPipe Indy team. 🔧

For this Indianapolis home, sections of the original cast iron drainage system had deteriorated and reached the point where replacement was the right long-term fix.

Our crew opened the basement floor, removed the failing cast iron and replaced it with new PVC drainage piping. It’s a bigger job, but when old underground piping starts failing, doing it correctly can save a homeowner from years of recurring backups, leaks and repeated service calls.
