This was a fun and challenging project! 👷‍♂️

The homeowner had a big issue: all six basement doors downstairs no longer opened or closed, and the shower had bowed out. When the basement was originally finished, no gap was left above or below the doors for the concrete to move—causing cracks and making the doors bind. The shower had the same problem, since it was screwed at the top and the floor movement pushed against it.

To fix it, we removed the doors, trimmed the bottoms to create a floating space for movement, and rebuilt the shower so it’s fully supported all the way around. Now everything looks right again—and, more importantly, the problems won’t come back.

As a handyman, I really enjoy these types of projects. They keep things interesting, and there’s always something new to learn when solving the “unsolvable.

This house has unstained trim with just lacquer, and here’s a little trick I’ve learned: fill nail holes with plastic wood putty and then re-lacquer over it. It blends in perfectly and looks just like the original unstained wood. 👌

We spotted what looked like water damage on a wall. To be safe, we cut it open and checked for any hidden problems. Thankfully, it turned out to be an old issue—no active leaks! We repaired the wall, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and now it looks brand new.
