How will I serve the Lord in my retirement years? That is a question many older believers ask. It is certainly a question my wife and I have prayed over. Because of our limited income with which to retire, we knew it would be a challenge to find a place of meaningful service. But God had a plan for us!
The Lord opened an opportunity for us to serve at Missionary Acres, a retirement community in southeast Missouri. This unique community in the foothills of the Ozarks provides affordable housing for retiring missionaries, pastors, and Christian workers of like faith. The maintenance and restoration of these homes is continual and there is a great need for people with construction skills in this community. Because of my home construction skills, it was a natural fit for me. There was also a need for help in the office for entering data and helping in other ways, which was a fit for my wife.
We have been serving as volunteers on the Acres for seven months now and our time here has been richly rewarding. The missionary staff are a joy and blessing to work with and as we have opportunity to fellowship with the residents on the Acres, we have been blessed beyond measure. This is an incredibly beautiful and unique rural environment in which you can serve the Lord by serving those who have given their lives in ministry to the Lord. We live right on the Acres in a two-bedroom duplex that has been provided for us through the ministry. As you can tell, we love where the Lord has put us.
Missionary Acres is currently looking for another retired couple that has similar skills in construction and office work. Would this be something that might interest you? Message us and we will put you in contact with people who can help answer your questions and get you started. How will you serve the Lord?
