Frost Alert
Hello, we are beginning our Frost Alerts for the season with this Frost Alert. We have some cold temps moving in starting Tuesday and ending hopefully Thursday. Tuesday night they are calling for a low of 34 degrees, Wednesday night 35 degrees, and Thursday night 38 degrees. If you live in the city, sheltered area, or a little higher elevation, it will be close to frosting. You might want to take some precautions. If you live on the valley floor, it will most certainly frost. The temps can drop an additional 6 to 8 degrees below the low temperature they post.
Add some frost protection to your annuals, veggies, and hanging baskets. We carry Frost Cloth at the nursery which can give you up to 10 degrees of protection. We also have 'Plant Protectors' at 50% off in our Bargain Barn. These offer great frost protection with the larger Plant Protectors fitting over larger tomato and squash plants. These are a great deal! It looks like we might finally come out of those cold temps for Friday night and the next 8 days or so.
This is a funny little story about frost in our area. In past years I taught gardening classes. When we would get to the subject of protecting plants from frost, I would tell a joke. It goes like this: "Our last 'official' frost date in our area is June 10th, our first frost date is June 11th." Everybody would laugh and that had never happened, well, until now. It looks like that is actually going to happen this year. Ironically, that a joke I used to say is actually becoming reality this year.
Protect your plants and you'll be fine. Here's to warmer weather!
