Long post, but a short (truncated for IG) story:
A little over 3 years ago, I had this wild idea to open a garden boutique. I had big ideas, a tight budget, & truthfully, no clue what I was doing. My vision was to create a space that would reach the heart of the experienced gardener & inspire a budding gardener. I wanted it to feel unique & special, much like the feeling Iโd experienced at only a few boutiques. One of those lovely places was a shop in the Emporium called Sparrow & Spoke. Every time I visited, I made a beeline straight for that corner space - it had all the vibes. It was delightful. It felt like home. Though I never met the owner, I felt a connection through the warmth of the space she created. I wanted to recreate that feeling for my customers, too.
By the time I was flirting with the idea of opening my own shop, the owner of S & S had moved to another state. I got her contact information from another merchant & nervously reached out to her. Up to that point, not everyone I spoke to was willing to share advice or lessons learned; some were guarded & even a bit competitive. But .j.retzlaff was the complete opposite. She was kind, generous, supportive & willing to share her wisdom. She was equally excited for me as I was for myself. She answered countless questions, offered tips and even shared some product lines to consider. Her mentorship was authentic, and for that, I am forever grateful.
For those who donโt know Sharon, sheโs incredibly talented. She creates beautiful living spaces through design, photography, gardening, floral arranging & so much more! She graciously shares her gifts to inspire others & what touched me most is how she supports & celebrates the success of others.
After I posted my seed storage tins, she privately shared a photo of one she purchased at my store & it meant the world to me. I want to share that photo with you because it represents so much gratitude - for Sharon & for each of you who have supported me in different ways. I love seeing selfies of you visiting the store or snapshots of your gardens inspired by something from my space. Thank you for making this journey so meaningful.
