I make things out of wood. I hope you like them. There is a value and a time and a place for mass-produced furniture and assembly line products.

But sometimes it's good to slow down, do something unique in a slow and difficult way, and end up with a project to be proud of. Every piece in this shop is handmade by me. I don't think anything is perfect, and no two pieces are exactly the same - that's what mass-production is for. There is life and character and charm in every piece, every imperfection.

If you have the chance, check out in Castro Valley! It's a super rad furniture restoration and design place with Dixie Belle Paints, cool antique/vintage materials, and a certain someone has a lil' self-serve section with his very own products there (hint: it's me!).

I've been doing a lot of epoxy projects recently (and tbh some gardening and household projects), so I figured on this chilly day it's a good time to get back to some woodworking. Learning a bit more about splines today. These are walnut and paduak on a maple domino box.

Happy belated National Unicorn Day! We used purple for the pips, and the domino itself is a custom blend of pink, pink, pink, lavendar, some teal, pink, and...pink. And glitter. And everything unicorn-ish I could find. Handmade, handpainted, hand trimmed.

Oooooh, glow in the dark! These pics are all the same set, just varying light levels (pitch black, dim, daylight). I love how they turned out, what do you think? Blue gitd powder, silver glitter, white pips. Handmade, handpainted, hand trimmed.

Working on a super cool set of dominoes with a frosty red and glittery cotton candy look, but I need help - what color should we paint the pips?! Gotta make sure they can be seen clearly, and I'm stumped. What do you think?

First try for a iPhone/iPad dock for my bride. Turned out pretty cool. Purpleheart and koa wood from a trip we took years ago to Hawaii. Gotta go back sometime 😉

We got these rad storage boxes, and we thought it'd be a great opportunity to add some seating in our kitchen area AND (pleeeeease) clean up a little. Pine+paint=solution. Just need to choose a fabric design and make (or ask grandma to make) a cushion for the top. :)

The Story (so far...)

I make things out of wood. I hope you like them.

I like knots and growth rings and curly figures and old stains and bug holes and dings and marks and ink that has shown the life of an object. I like to be reminded that some good things can last for generations, and some good things are only good for the weekend. The Japanese have a traditional aesthetic style called wabi-sabi - a way of looking at the world focused on the acceptance of imperfection and modesty. I like that.

I've made wood pieces and furniture and “art” for years, mostly for friends but sometimes on commission. This is a part-time thing, but I'd like it to be a full-time job for me and my family. I can promise you I will always do my best to make something as if it were for my own home. I love learning new techniques, trying new things, and evolving and growing.
