Winter die-off
By this time you should be able to see where some plants begin and end- and with that may come some really less-than thriving plants.

In this case-Lavender.
Because of its hardiness zone and the way it stays above ground, rather then dieing back to the roots- makes it susceptible to our cold winters, resulting in die back. If we don't aquire enough snow cover in winter, this can happen- uneven growth or complete die back.
Sometimes pruning it back will promote new growth, in a more even shape- it just takes time.. orr it's time to replace the lil guys.
