My Eastern Redbud tree survived its first major snowstorm. Unfortunately, the early snow caught the tree with its leaves still on. I had to go out and shake off the branches as the snow started to weigh them down to the ground.

Silver-edged horehound, or Marrubium rotundifolium, is an excellent groundcover for xeriscape gardens. The sage-green, fuzzy leaves are backed by silver, which extends around to the front with a contrasting silver edge. This plant does extremely well in poor soils as long as they are well-draining. It loves the heat and sun and is drought-tolerant. Another advantage is that it is deer—and rabbit-resistant.
