A few shots from the first week of pickling the ceiling boards for the house we refer to as the Betty Smith house which was originally built in the early 1800s by a man named Russ Snow. The pickle is a dilution of the real milk paint available-

I found this article the other day. It’s well written other than the authors acceptanceof The use of foam in insulating our homes. And I don’t understand what he means about high density Cellulose in vented cathedral ceilings.

Whether you decide to make it vented or unvented, get the details right — because every cathedral ceiling offers opportunities to make big mistakes

This detail has kept this house standing for 200 years. my understanding is this work was done by a man named Russ Snow. it appears to have rotten sometime ago and repaired not so long ago. Not many people will see this with their own eyes or touch it or smell the dust and get rotten wood stuck under their fingernails when they scrape at the decaying surface or notice the intricacies of the hand work joinery. It’s rough and wasn’t intended to look nice but rather serve a function.
