How are your Boxwood doing?
Box Tree Moth (BTM) populations have exploded in the past few weeks, and we are seeing lots of affected Boxwoods in the Centerville/Kettering/Springboro area. The larvae of BTM can defoliate Boxwood in just a matter of days. If they do become defoliated, and they dont die, they will need to be cut back to 6-24 inches and will require a couple of seasons before they regain their size and shape. Early detection and prompt action are crucial to saving your Boxwood. Your preferred hardware store or garden center will have an appropriate insecticide for controlling caterpillars, such as Eight or BT(K). Grass Monkey has been monitoring the developing BTM situation for the past couple of seasons and we are prepared to help. Whether that is by chemical control with follow up applications and seasonally appropriate pruning, or by removal and replacement. Give us a call or send us an email if you need one of our Landscape Professionals to come take a look at your Boxwood.
