I reciently had a request to find out why a bathroom fan wasn't working. Normally it's because power is interupted for some reason. When I went to look, I could see something that looked like something dripping through the vent cover. I removed the cover and discovered charred lint. There had been a small fire in the fan box at sometime and the fan blade had melted away and the motor had completly burned. There is power in the box but I will need to examine the box to make sure that none of the wiring has melted.
You don't normally see lint in a bathroom vent, and is normally only found when fans have been there a long time. Lint whether it's in a bathroom fan or a dryer vent, is incredibally flamable. Homeowners need to monitor the build up of lint in these areas and take steps to vacume out the areas.
