Apparently it is Wonky Window Wednesday🤪 We fitted some storms today in a home that has had a BIT of settling. Some of these were off level by as much as 1 1/2”. All good, we were ready for it. That is why we scribe the windows on site. Also check out the last two photos. You’ll see how the simulated divided lite storm lines up with the restored sashes. It is a bit tricky to get it all lined up but the depth it brings is all worth it. So glad we have customers that value their lovely historic home. Restoration test window. Here is a window that we restored a few weeks ago. This is what we call a “test window.” Many customers don’t really know what to expect with a window restoration. So we offer to do just one window so they can see exactly what the end product looks like before signing on for a larger project. Needless to say, this customer decided to move forward with the window restoration… and wood storms… and exterior trim restoration. It really doesn’t get better than that. This window is 100 years old FYI.

Another install of our combinations storms with interior removable inserts. We did both windows and doors as you will see in the first two pics. This is another project where hanger hardware wasn’t really an option with the way most of the casings were set up. So these are face screwed with stainless screws with stainless finish washers. Another minor thing to note is that some of the windows had a larger upper sash than the lower. We always match our storm to the meeting rails on the prime windows.

Here are some of our combination wood storm windows with the removable top and bottom inserts. These are installed in the eastern casing style where they protrude from the casing rather than sit flush. Also, notice in the third image that you can still use window A/C units with these storms. We’ve had many ask about that lately. We restored the windows in this home and were fortunate to also protect them with our storms. If you have an old home, we would love to do the same for you.

Triple Hung Hybrid Wood Storm. You don’t find too many triple hung windows on homes but it is fun when you do. Our storms are always custom so we can handle any design. This customer chose to have the top two panes putty glazed with the bottom one having an interior removable glass and screen insert. The way this window casing is built, traditional hangers and turnbuttons are not an option. So these storms are face screwed with stainless screws and finish washers.

We fit some custom single hung sashes last week. I often find it to be a wise choice to scribe our sashes to the openings before we move to glazing and painting. It ensures a perfect fit and that everything lines up right. You will see that the meeting rails are right in line in the pics.

We installed a bunch of aluminum storm windows on this 1740’s farmhouse last week. The customer badly wanted to save her windows but improve the energy efficiency of them. These two track Energy Star rated storms were the perfect option. They look great and the home should feel far less drafty this winter!

Some TDL (true divided lite) wood storms with wavy glass from The first two pics give you an after and before view of the windows. You certainly cannot say that the storms harm the aesthetic of this home.
