We can’t let this month pass without recognizing a truly remarkable milestone. In 2026, Chris Carter celebrates 40 years since she joined John Milner’s firm. Prior to joining the firm, Chris worked in the Preservation Assistance Division of the National Park Service in Washington, DC. Over the past four decades, Chris has played a leading role in many of our firm’s most significant projects, including the soon-to-be-completed restoration of the First Bank of the United States. Chris was named a Senior Associate in 2005. In the coming days, we look forward to highlighting some of these projects. If you’ve had the opportunity to work with Chris—as a client, consultant, contractor, or collaborator—you’ve experienced firsthand her exceptional dedication, deep expertise, and tireless work ethic. Please join us in congratulating Chris on this extraordinary achievement. We invite you to share your congratulations and well wishes in the comments below. We look forward to sharing your messages with her as we celebrate this milestone.

Our historic preservation projects don't just focus on the buildings themselves. Often, we restore the fixtures and fittings that go along with them. In this case, we're collaborating with Warren Holzman and the talented team at on the restoration of a house full of fixtures designed by the noted metalworker, Samuel Yellin. Inappropriate finishes and alterations are being stripped away, and the fixtures are being restored to their original appearance, while sensitively integrating updated lighting technologies. Missing mica and glass will be replaced and the restored fixtures will be reinstalled in their original locations.

In celebration of the holiday season, our team visited Longwood Gardens, where we toured some of our recent projects, followed by a 6-course dinner at the wonderful restaurant, 1906. We’ve been blessed to have worked on a variety of projects at Longwood for nearly 15 years, beginning with the restoration of the Webb Farmhouse in the Meadow Garden, followed by projects at the Peirce duPont House, the East and West Conservatories, the Silver Garden, Cox House, Orchid House, Cascade Gardens, and the Estate Houses. Principal and Technical Director Joshua Kiehl led many of these projects, and he guided the group tour. We end the year feeling fortunate for special projects like these, as well as the collaborators and clients who make them happen. Wishing Seasons Greetings to all our friends and followers!
