Mondays with Morford’s 👋

We know you’ve been waiting for this one! Today, we’re excited to introduce you to the owner of Morford’s Decorating—John Morford.

Fun fact: John was just 2 years old when Morford’s was founded by his dad, Merle Morford. So aside from Merle himself, it’s safe to say John might just be our longest-standing “employee”!

While in college, John started installing floors part-time—and that’s where it all began. He quickly developed a love for the craft and, after graduating, chose to stay in Chadron and continue full-time as an installer.

After 26 years of hands-on installation, John moved into a management role and eventually took over the reins when Merle retired. One of the things that truly sets John apart is his real-world experience—he doesn’t just sell the product, he’s installed it. That insight helps him guide customers toward the best choices for their homes.

Let’s get to know John a little better:

⭐ What’s your favorite type of project?
“I’m a big-picture person, so I love whole-house projects—where everything comes together. From flooring to showers, cabinets, and coordinating with other trades, seeing it all completed is incredibly fulfilling.”

⭐ What’s one thing customers should never stress about?
“Asking questions! Our team has years of experience and we love helping customers feel confident in their decisions.”

⭐ What’s your go-to flooring advice?
“I know all my installers talked about floor prep, so I am going to start there. Really, it is the most vital part of assuring a successful finished project. Along side of that, my next piece of advice would be to select the correct cleaning products. There are a lot of floor specific cleaners and vacuums and knowing what to use on your floors, will extend the life of your flooring.”

⭐ Hard surface or carpet?
“This changes all the time, but right now… carpet! There are so many fashion forward styles to choose from and I’ve definitely come to appreciate the warmth and comfort more over the years. But that being said… 😉”

⭐ What keeps you busy outside of work?
“If you know me, you know I’m always into something! I was a volunteer firefighter for 25 years and still teach fire classes with the State Fire Marshal’s Office. You might occasionally see me driving a school bus for Chadron Public Schools. I love the outdoors—boating, hiking, biking, camping, or cooking in my outdoor kitchen. But my favorite role is helping my kids with projects and being Grandpa to Quinn and Brooks.”

⭐ Go-to pick-me-up?
“As my wife calls it—something ‘foo-foo’: a sugar-free white chocolate latte! 😊”

Through changing trends and evolving needs, one thing has stayed constant—John’s commitment to doing things right and taking care of people. John's love for Western Nebraska is hard to ignore. He truly is proud to call himself a Chadron native and so are we.

Mondays with Morford’s 👋

If you’ve ever been in Morford’s Decorating, chances are you already know our next employee. Steven Boeselager, our store manager, has been with MDC since 2016.

Fun fact: Steven also worked as an installer at Morford’s while he was a student at CSC, so he brings years of flooring experience to the job. He’s also a second-generation Boeselager at Morford’s. His mom was the office assistant for many years, and his sister Karen is our current office assistant. Didn’t we say this was a family-run business? 😊

Let’s get to know Steven a little better 👇

⭐ What’s your favorite type of customer project to work on?
When I was installing—and now in sales—the answer is the same: shower builds. As an installer, I loved putting all the pieces together to create a one-of-a-kind shower based on the customer’s vision. Now I get to work on the front end, guiding customers through all the different products they can choose from so they can picture what their final project will look like. There are endless options, which can be overwhelming, so I enjoy helping customers sort through them and make the decisions a little easier.

⭐ What’s one thing customers should never stress about when choosing a floor?

Honestly, any of it—that’s where I come in. The options can feel overwhelming, but together we can narrow down what’s really important to the customer. It might take some time to look at samples and talk through design, but it always falls into place.

⭐ What’s one piece of flooring advice you give almost every customer?

I’ll echo what all of our installers say: prep work is key to a great install. Having a space properly prepared for the finished product is just as important as the flooring you choose.

⭐ Hard surface or carpet? Why?

I’ll always choose hard surface. As a family with several pets, it’s much easier to keep our home clean with hard surface flooring.
⭐ Outside of work, what keeps you busy?
Hunting, fishing, boating, backpacking, biking, skiing—basically anything outdoors! I like to stay active and spend as much time outside as possible.

⭐ Go-to pick-me-up on a busy day?

Coffee and homemade deer salami. Some days that’s my breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Of course, I also enjoy an after-work beverage to finish off the day. 😉

👏 As you can tell, we couldn’t run Morford’s without Steven. He’s the glue connecting our customers, their products, and our installers. Our customers benefit from his extensive flooring expertise. He’s also a scheduling magician, fitting all the pieces together so projects get completed in a timely manner.

Mondays with Morford’s 👋

Last week we introduced our newest employee, and this week we’re highlighting one of our most seasoned team members!

Karen Lewin began her career at Morford’s Decorating in 1999 as our office manager. If you’ve ever called the store, chances are Karen was the friendly voice on the other end. Over the years she has been our trusted record keeper, inventory specialist, and sales support. Fun fact: Karen actually took over this role from her mom when she retired—so we truly are a family business!

Let’s get to know Karen a little better 👇

⭐Whats one thing customers should never stress about when choosing floor?

Customers are often thinking about the future sale of their home, and therefore pick products that they think future home buyers might like. The happiest customers are those that pick products and colors that THEY love and don't worry about current trends or future home value.

⭐ What’s one piece of flooring advice you give almost every customer?

Take samples home and look at them in your space for several days. Flooring always looks different in the lighting of your own home than it does on the showroom floor. We want you to know exactly what your floor will look like in your setting.

⭐ Hard surface or carpet? Why?

Definitely hard surface for me. I like how durable it is, especially in a pet-friendly home. It’s also easy to clean and doesn’t trap dust or allergens.

⭐ Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

I make it a point to walk daily, usually during my lunch hour. I also enjoy running and biking to stay active. I love quilting and have made several quilts over the years. Of course, my favorite way to relax is spending time with my family.

⭐ Go-to pick-me-up on a busy day?

A nice cold Diet Coke or a Vanilla Chai Frappe.

👏 Karen is an integral part of the Morford’s crew. She knows the ins and outs of the business as well as anyone, and we’re incredibly grateful for the 26 years she’s spent helping keep everything running smoothly. While she might not always be as visible as the guys in the field, she’s every bit as important.

We’re excited for you to get to know our newest team member, Shannon O’Rourke! For the past six weeks, Shannon has been diving into the world of floor covering products so she can help you find the perfect fit for your home or business.

Let’s get to know Shannon a little better 👇

⭐ What’s your favorite type of customer project to work on?

Right now, I’m still learning about all the different products customers can choose from, but I’ve really enjoyed listening to customers’ needs—whether it’s for their homes or commercial spaces. As customers learn about products, I’m learning right alongside them, and it’s been fun to grow together.

⭐ What’s one piece of flooring advice you give almost every customer?

As I’ve been learning, I’ve found myself drawn to hard surface flooring. I love a clean environment, so I appreciate how easy hard surfaces are to maintain. My advice is often to consider a hard surface option if cleanability is a priority.

⭐ Outside of work, what keeps you busy?

I’m usually working on projects—mainly on two ranches where there’s always something that needs to be done. I’m also close to completing my bachelor’s degree, so between ranch work and studying, my schedule stays pretty full!

⭐ Go to pick me up on a busy day?

Wandering Lilac smoothies are my absolute favorite!
