The outer border is natural stone and the inside edge is a Unilock Eco-Prioria paver. Both are 4 inches thick, which is why the rock goes in at a lower height than the patio will sit. We have to get these borders set first so the rock bed height is correct before the patio ever goes down.

The Unilock Eco-Prioria is also a permeable paver, meaning water drains through it rather than pooling on top. Around a pool that matters a lot. Water that comes off the pool deck needs somewhere to go and this setup lets it drain out naturally through the paver edge rather than sitting and causing problems over time.

Not every job fits neatly into a scope of work and that is perfectly fine with us. The homeowner needed a foundation cavity filled for their pool house and we showed up with a conveyor and several hundred tons of pea gravel and got it done. This is the kind of stuff we love.

Major progress on this patio install. The majority of the surface is down and you can really start to see the full scope of it now. We still have a wall and steps to build out before we can close off and finish the last section but the end is in sight. Water drainage is one of the most critical things we plan for on every patio we build. On this install we are using Eco-Preoria pavers which allow water to drain right through the surface instead of pooling on top. It is one of those details that most people never think about but makes a huge difference in how the finished patio performs over time.
