Hi friends,
As many of you know, I’m Adam’s daughter, Mikayla. We’ve had several people ask what happened to my dad. We understand that it’s normal to want to know, and we also understand that without information people are left to their imaginations. Although we were fairly certain right away, we wanted to wait until the autopsy report confirmed our suspicions.
Adam died of DKA, or diabetic ketoacidosis, likely caused by a bout of the stomach flu he had been battling. He had lived with type 1 diabetes (also known as Juvenile diabetes) since the age of 22. This is an autoimmune disease and not related to lifestyle. The only treatment for this is insulin, and maybe you noticed his insulin pump and wondered if it was a 1990s-style pager.
We want to thank Chandler PD, Chandler Fire, the Crisis Response Team, and the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's office for their kindness and patience the day I called them. They all treated me, my brother, my mom, and most importantly, my dad, with the utmost respect and were everything we needed that day. We would also like to thank Dina and the rest of the staff at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery for their kindness and support as they walked me and AJ through a very difficult process. They took excellent care of our dad and went above and beyond for our family. We also want to give a big shout-out to Giammarco Law Office. Zach and his team have been amazing throughout this process, guiding us through all the legal things that come along with losing a family member.
And finally, a very special thank you to Christina Nguyen, his business associate and friend to our entire family. She alerted us when Dad missed an appointment. Although AJ and I arrived too late to help him, it likely would have been much longer without her reaching out.
We are devastated beyond belief, so please hold your loved ones close while you can. My brother, AJ, and I would also like to use this as a call to action - please create a will. Please don’t leave your loved ones with the added burden of navigating your passing without something in place.
