Our friend Aurora T. helped this little friend across our driveway this weekend!

We have seen many creatures in our driveway over the years, including foxes, deer, and rabbits; but none who have hammed it up for the camera quite as much as this box turtle at the turtle crossing 😂

🌳 Happy Arbor Day from Carolina Habitats! 🌿

Today, we celebrate the incredible gift that trees give to our planet. Planting a tree isn't just about adding beauty to your yard-it's about nurturing life, improving air quality, providing habitat for wildlife, and combating climate change.

This Arbor Day, take a moment to plant a native tree in your community or garden. It’s a small act with a big impact- one that will grow for generations to come. To our followers who aren't local, did you know we have partnered with Izel Native Plants? You may purchase a select inventory of woody trees and shrubs through their online store.

We are excited to have this partnership to make our plants more accessible! Let’s root for our future, one tree at a time! 🌱🌳

New growing season, new soil!

We are committed to finding alternative solutions that align with our values of environmental stewardship and responsible resource management. We are THRILLED to share we have made a significant change in our potting soil formula, to transition away from the use of peat moss!

This winter, we proudly began incorporating spent coffee chaff sourced from our friends at Little Waves Coffee Roasters (Durham, NC) into our potting soil. This innovative approach not only supports local businesses but repurposes a material that would otherwise be composted. The use of coffee chaff has greatly enhanced soil aeration and moisture retention in our growing media, fostering healthier plants. Also... it just smells nice. Don't panic if you find a spent coffee bean in your plant!
