Most homeowners think construction starts when the demo crew shows up…
but that’s actually the middle of the process.

Your contractor is doing an insane amount of work behind the scenes long before a hammer ever swings. And THIS is where your project succeeds or spirals.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain 👇

- Detailing scope of work
- Building your construction team
- Coordinating designers, architects, and engineers
- Validating pricing
- Building a working schedule
- Gathering selections and confirming lead times and so much more.

This is why the pre-construction phase matters.
This is why starting with clarity matters.
And this is why you NEVER want to skip this stage or rush it.

Once you understand the process, you become an empowered, confident decision-maker — not a passive passenger in your own renovation.

If you want to create your own pre-construction plan you can hand directly to your builder… Blueprint Collective is where that journey begins. 💛

In this episode of Custom Built, we’re breaking down what’s really happening during the pre-construction phase—and why your contractor might seem so quiet.

From coordinating with architects, engineers, and trades to validating budgets, sourcing materials, confirming elevations, navigating zoning and permits, and planning for surprises behind walls or under floors, this stage is packed with critical behind-the-scenes work.

It may look like “nothing is happening,” but it’s actually the groundwork that prevents chaos, delays, and expensive change orders once construction begins.

If you’re preparing for a renovation, this episode will help you understand why a thoughtful pre-construction phase is one of the biggest green flags in a builder. Join the waitlist for The Blueprint Collective.

This is why I geek out about pre-construction planning.
It’s not about paint colors or backsplash choices.
It’s about how you move, breathe, rest, gather, create, and live.

It’s about designing a home that matches the version of you you’re growing into.

When homeowners skip this step, they end up:
🔸 overwhelmed
🔸 misaligned
🔸 over budget
🔸 underwhelmed by the end result

When they take the time to think deeply about what they truly want?
Everything changes.

Your home is a reflection of your becoming.
Plan with intention, and the rest falls into place.

I don’t say this lightly — and I definitely didn’t learn it the easy way.

For years, I lived on autopilot.
Going through routines.
Surviving the day.
Thinking “someday” I’d have the space, time, energy, money, motivation, clarity.

But the truth?
Someday never comes unless you decide it’s today.

That’s the fire behind intentional living.
Behind every renovation.
Behind my mission to help homeowners stop waiting and start creating the homes they dream of.

You don’t have to bulldoze your life.
You just have to stop being a passive passenger in it.

One small intentional choice… that’s all it takes.

12/03/2025

Here’s something I’ve learned in construction and life:

If you’re waiting for the perfect time… you’ll be waiting forever.

When I talk to homeowners, 2 things pop up:

“I don’t know where to start,”
and
“I’m scared of messing it up.”

But clarity isn’t found by thinking about the project.
It’s found by stepping into it with intention.

This week, try this:
Ask yourself, What do I want my home—and my life—to look like one year from now?
Then take one aligned action toward it.

Your readiness grows with your action.
And you deserve a home and a life that match what’s in your heart.

EP 39 of Custom Built just dropped, and this one… whew. It’s for the version of you who knows she’s meant for more, but keeps waiting for “the right time.”

Here’s the truth I’m standing in lately:

If you’re not actively creating the life you want—your home, your routines, your expansion—then what are you doing? Moving through your days on autopilot isn’t the vibe anymore. Not for you. Not for the future you’re calling in.

This episode is a reminder that:
✨ Intentional living isn’t a cute Pinterest idea—it’s your power move.
✨ Your home mirrors your inner world. When you avoid the hard decisions, the renovation, the clarity… you stay stuck in the same patterns.
✨ Reflection + rest + conscious choices = sustainable growth.
✨ And sometimes the thing you're gripping onto? The expectation, the identity, the plan from five versions ago? …That’s what’s holding you back.

As the seasons shift, nature sheds. You’re allowed to shed, too.
Old stories. Old pressures. Old timelines.
So you can step into the version of you who actually goes after all of it.

You’ve heard all the horror stories about contractors…
But let’s talk about what it looks like when you’ve actually found a good one.

Swipe through for 5 contractor green flags to look for before you sign anything. ⬅️

Here’s the truth:
You’re not just hiring for skill—you’re hiring for alignment, communication, and care.

When you sit down with a builder who:
✅ Shares their WHY
✅ Makes you feel seen and heard
✅ Sets clear expectations
✅ Is honest about numbers
✅ Is upfront about their limitations
…you’re not just getting a project done.

You’re protecting your peace, your home, and your future self.

In this episode of Custom Built, we’re flipping the script—from spotting red flags to recognizing the green flags that tell you you’ve found the right contractor.

Instead of just focusing on what could go wrong, we’ll talk about the five qualities that signal alignment, trust, and craftsmanship.

Let’s clear this up:

A contractor who refuses to give you a sure price in the first meeting is not unprepared.

✅ They’re being honest.
✅ They respect the complexity of your project.
✅ They don’t want to set you up for disappointment later.

Green Flag: They talk in ranges at first and clearly explain what needs to happen before you get a detailed estimate.

That might look like:
– “Based on what you’re saying, similar projects fall between X and Y.”
– “Once we have plans, engineering, and selections, we can dial in your final number.”

That’s integrity.

If someone throws out a too-good-to-be-true number just to win the job?

That’s usually a red flag dressed up as confidence.

Forget trends. Forget what your neighbor did.
Your home should support your real life—the way you cook, rest, connect, and recharge.

That’s what intentional design is all about.
When you build from your truth, you create a home that loves you back.

If you’re starting a renovation, start with how you want to live, not what you think you “should” build. Tell me about your favorite space in your home and why.

The right team will never make you feel like you’re “𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘫𝘰𝘣.”
They’ll treat your home with care, curiosity, and respect—because they love what they do.

When you hire people who still find joy in their craft, it changes everything about your experience and you'll see that shine through the final product!
