Maxson Associates

Maxson Associates Innovative products to deliver safe, flexible, spaces. In 1976, Max sold his stock to his partner to form Maxson and Associates, Inc.

Here at Maxson, we have a long history spanning over six decades of successfully providing innovative products that deliver unique solutions. Our products provide wide span openings that maintain life safety code compliance, create flexible and reconfigurable spaces, and provide functional support through security and environmental control. Founded originally in 1955 as the Maxson-Betts company, E

.W. “Max” Maxson and his business partner established a foundation of assisting architects during the design phase of the project while faithfully executing the delivery and installation of the products as designed. The company originally sold just doors and windows but quickly added specialty products like rolling steel doors and loading dock equipment over the next 20 years. in order to serve his architectural and general contractor clients better and create a path for succession. Max lead the company through continued growth until his retirement in 1988. Since then, Maxson and Associates has continued to thrive under the leadership of Max’s son, Bill, expanding its offering into space management and life safety products that complement its traditional product offering while greatly increasing its service business. Maxson remains a partner to architects and interior designers as full service, knowledgeable product representatives, ensuring the careful execution of their design through dependable construction execution and teamwork with the General Contractor. Every effort at Maxson is focused on a solid client experience, down to the day-to-day operation by the facility owner throughout the life cycle of the product. The options and capabilities offered today are unmatched by its competitors, and sets the Maxson team in a class of their own.

A new Charleston-area entertainment space is opening up to more possibilities.

Work is progressing at the upcoming Frankie's Fun Park in the Charleston area, where the Maxson team is installing a DoorWall Systems operable wall.
The system will give the venue a flexible connection between the interior and exterior, helping the space respond to weather conditions and create a more open, lively event experience when the moment is right.

From delivery and field installation to controls, alignment, testing, and long-term service, this is the kind of specialty opening that benefits from one coordinated team. We are proud of the progress and the skilled work carrying it forward.

Follow Maxson for more progress, or contact our team to explore a DoorWall Systems opening for your next project.

Finding the Cure for Complex Life-Safety Challenges
Code compliance should support the design, not compete with it.

Cathryn Wickerham recently led the Batson Associates, Inc. team in in a Lunch and Learn focused on life-safety challenges in healthcare occupancies. The conversation covered opening protectives, elevator smoke containment, and design options that can address code requirements without losing sight of the architect's intent.

Healthcare projects bring complex conditions, and the right answer depends on the adopted code, occupancy, building configuration, and authority having jurisdiction. That is why early collaboration matters. When the design team can identify the code path before details are locked in, there is more room to coordinate a solution that is safe, practical, and visually appropriate.

We appreciate Batson Associates for making time for a thoughtful conversation and for continuing to put collaboration at the center of healthcare design.

Want to bring this conversation to your firm? Schedule a Maxson Lunch and Learn, or invite our fire and life-safety team into an early project discussion.

Southworth Lift Table Installation Supports Safer Healthcare Operations

Maxson Associates recently completed a Southworth lift table installation at a local Novant Health facility, helping create a safer and more efficient way to move materials at a key access point.

Designed to support smoother transfer between elevations, the lift table helps reduce manual strain on staff while improving day-to-day movement of carts, supplies, linens, and equipment.

For healthcare facilities, solutions like this can strengthen back-of-house logistics, support ergonomic workflows, and enhance operational reliability. Maxson’s turnkey services helped streamline the project from planning and coordination through installation and ongoing support, ensuring the solution was tailored to the facility’s needs.

Together, Southworth’s proven lift-table and Maxson’s full-service approach deliver long-term value for environments where safety, , and dependability matter every day.

Better early than late is always the right call.

The superintendent and project manager at Mount Moriah Seniors Building had not worked with Smoke Guard before, so they asked Maxson to come out before the elevators were installed and answer a few questions.
That was the right move.

Tom completed a morning survey to review the field conditions, walk through the important details, and help the project team feel more comfortable before the work moved too far ahead.
For fire and life safety products like Smoke Guard elevator smoke containment systems, early coordination can make a big difference. It gives everyone a chance to confirm details, understand the product, and avoid unnecessary stress later.
We appreciate a project team that asks questions early, and we are proud of the diligence our team brings when those questions come up.

If a project team has questions about Smoke Guard or fire and life safety coordination, bring Maxson in early.
