Tomatoes are starting to ripen despite this heat and drought. We won't have high yields like in previous years, but we are already getting seeds saved and should have some new varieties in the shop in the coming weeks. Most will likely be limited stock due to low production, but we are hoping we can get more as the season progresses. There is still a lot of time left. We are already finding new favorites and can't wait to share them with you!

We harvested our onions a few weeks ago and cured them. Some were not as big as we hoped, but we got them in ground a bit late. Our favorites, cipollini, did very well and I highly recommend them for North Carolina growers!

We have been away from the garden for a bit and came back to a wild mess. Harvested massive zucchini and squash from the likely soon to be dead plants, thanks SVB... We aren't 100% sure what we will do with them all. Definitely some zucchini bread in the future. For size reference look for the orange utility knife.

It has been very dry and hot the past few weeks and the garden has not done well without water. Unfortunately we might lose some tomato plants, but are hoping to revive some of them. To add insult to injury, the caterpillar population is enjoying the plants that are thriving. On the upside our dwarfs and indoor micros are going strong. We are excited to share them with you all in the next few months.

Although this year will not likely be a success, I am still loving it and learning from it all. I hope all of you are enjoying your own garden journey and take the good with the bad.

After waking up this morning some squirrel or chipmunk decided to eat through some of the corn I planted yesterday. So today instead of planting, I worked on assembling our bird, bug, and rodent proof tulle covers. Corn is now safe and hopefully we won't have too many bare patches.

They worked so well last year I am going to assemble more for the peanut bed and the other smaller beds that have zucchini and squash. Such a cheap and easy solution to such an annoying problem.

Wow, it is a wet one out there today!

That didn't stop us though. We gave away an entire rack of plants to neighbors, finished planting the corn, sweet potatoes and over half the beans. Crossing our fingers the squirrels, chipmunks or voles don't eat them before they sprout.

Hoping to plant the remaining beans and peanuts tomorrow. Hoping to put some hardware cloth over my peanuts to keep them safe until they are big enough.

I don't think we will be getting the leeks planted or the ground cherries and dwarf tomatoes in their containers this weekend, but hopefully by next.

Release ladybugs last night!

As of last night, all tomatoes, peppers, flowers, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, and melons planted in the raised beds. We still have to plant basil, corn, beans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and leeks, but it is more than 50% planted. All dwarf tomatoes will go into their containers this upcoming weekend. Looking forward to having everything planted and just being able to watch it grow and produce.

Planting Day!

We got all the beds switched out and filled. Going to fertilize and plant out as much as possible today. Hoping after that to get some soaker hoses down and do some cleanup.

What a busy weekend it was! As you know we have been working tirelessly to switch our old raised beds out with metal ones. I am happy to report we are only two big beds away from accomplishing that. We have been using the previous bed boards for planks to walk on since the ground can be super soft this time of year.

We also got two truck loads of organic compost from our recycling center this past weekend and recently finished re-doing our strawberry and asparagus beds. Before they were separate beds, now we have both in each bed and looking forward to seeing how they do together.

Garlic and onions are coming along well and planted some regular potatoes for the first time in years (never had much luck with those).
