Amsonia hubrichtii or Bluestar has blue flowers in spring, this species has light airy foliage which looks nice all summer then turns yellow in fall. They also look great planted next to an evergreen like a palm. Bluesatr's are in the milkweed family so deer and rabbits mostly leave them alone and they're well behaved clumpers that don't spread everywhere.

After the Southeast Palm Society meeting yesterday we went to a members home. This place is beautiful. Lots of palms he also has a patch serona repens I failed to get pics of them. We had to cut our visit here a bit short, but loved it. I labeled things as best as I can remember what they were.

We attended the Southeast Palm Society meeting in Augusta yesterday at St. Aquinas. There's so much there that I could just spend all day looking around and taking pics. This is what I took pictures of but also there's a ton of citrus and BLEs and lots of things I've never seen before. We had a plant sale and auction, a tour, then met up for lunch and later decided to visit Joe's home garden. We had a wonderful time as always and were able to meet more of our palm society members. This was our 2nd time going to this school which is like a botanical garden.

Photos taken 01/31/2026 Lincoln County NC zone 8a. We had a widespread snow event, in all of North Carolina. We had around 9 inches of snow here and quite windy, parts of Charlotte recorded 12 inches. Most of the sleet and ice has melted from last week in all but a few shady spots. We're expecting 7°f temperatures tonight 02/01/2026. Last night we hit 11°f and in typical NC fashion should be back into the 40s and 50s by end of the week and all this snow will be gone. This is the most snow we've had here in over 10 years, here. This was also a very nice fluffy powdery snow, which isn't common in the Southeast outside of the Appalachians. Mostly our snows are either mixed with combination of sleet, ice and freezing rain or very wet and melty which may freeze into ice overnight. The palms were mostly looking good, before this we'll see how things look after the snow is gone.
