Just 3? There is study after study now on the health benefits of gardening. I’ve chosen the top 3 in my personal opinion to share. PS - I’ve linked to articles that highlight these studies if you wanna dig deeper. As always, pun intended! You can find this read in the journal of my site. Come back and let me know what surprised you or what your top 3 would be!

A TIMELINE for a (re)introduction..
•In 2014 we bought our first home, bought a tiller with our tax refund + plowed our first plot.
•2015 plot was a success thanks to compost + our son was born that summer.
•The next three years I devoured all the garden knowledge via experimentation, YouTube tutorials, courses + books either while nursing or during nap time.
•2018 our daughter was born. Her birth awoke so much in me. I started Flower Child Heirlooms as a (micro)plant nursery.
•2019 I began selling flowers and offering garden + consulting services. We experienced personal loss and grief.
•2020 Nathan was furloughed. Everyone was home. We got to work as fast as we could building gardens and raised beds through the uncertainty.
•2021 my love for flowers was overwhelming. I gave them more focus and they took over my own garden. Nathan returned to work.
•2022 lots of popups! Business slowed. Flowers overflowed. The overwhelm of summer was a bit too much. Consulting + Garden Services remained.
•2023 Boundaries for the sake of sanity. More intention. Slowing down. Experiential events. Floral Arrangements + Garden Consulting.
•NOW building on all I’ve learned over the last 8+ years I am offering a course. It’s a course I’ve tinkered with and given much consideration. I’ve invested in myself over the years and believe in the power of perspective. I’m ready to offer my own perspective in a newish way that I hope promotes practice without pressure, ritual and empowerment to enrich your own way of gardening.

Here’s to now. To the practice of it all + the possibilities held within ourselves and community. You can read more about me, our offerings and this course; GARDEN LIKE A FLOWER CHILD on our site…flowerchildheirlooms.com or gardenlikeaflowerchild.com

What in this timeline if anything stands out? What do you remember us for most?

Thanks for being here through it all. Lauren 👩🏻‍🌾

INSPIRED by all the nooks and crannies filled with intention. I used to think the country was it, the only place for oodles of florals and foliage. Oh on the contrary! The way cities explode with possibility moves me. The walking and talking from point a to point b and places in between. Home really is inside of us. We carry it with us wherever we go. Sometimes it’s hard to look inward. 💚

Thankful for family, friends and quick spontaneous trips! ✨

Who We Are

I, Lauren Child, am a stay at home mom of two young children & the owner of Flower Child Heirlooms; an edible & floral garden business. We are focused on growing heirloom, open-pollinated & native varieties in a way that is regenerative for the earth. Currently, we sell bouquets, & bouquet subscriptions as well as install a variety of legacy garden beds in our urban community. We have recently added gardening workshops to our offerings to promote community & good stewardship of the soil. Charlotte, NC is rapidly growing. Our very neighborhood, which is 103 years old has been going through a revitalization, but much of it has been torn down to build newer homes that take up the bulk of the lot. Our goal is to educate our community on the importance of growing gardens in a responsible manner no matter the lot size to help repair the planet. Whether it is pollinator gardens that double as cut flower gardens, or vegetable plots that have flowers incorporated, we want flowers to be accessible to everyone & for everyone to have the opportunity to understand their importance in the garden & on the table.
