Back to school season always brings the transition of awnings to curtain enclosures! Yet every year we have restaurant owners waiting until 2 weeks before Valentine's Day to order a complete custom curtain enclosure and want a two-week delivery! Custom curtain enclosures take some time! GET THEM ORDERED EARLY! Here are some great tips for purchasing a curtain enclosure:
1. Buy local - from a company that isn't too far away to come back and service the system. There are several companies masquerading as local when they don't even have an office in Charlotte!
2. Buy from an awning manufacturer, not an installer! There are only a handful of awning manufacturers in the Charlotte Area. Most other outfits are a couple of guys with a storage building or even a garage at their home!
3. Captured side systems: These curtain enclosures feature motors, remotes and moving parts! MAKE SURE if you are buying this type of system with clear windows, that the tracks are SELF ADJUSTING and not FIXED. Everybody LOVES the clear windows --- until they get the clear windows. Consider a dense mesh instead. You will extend the life of the curtain and not void your warranty. With the moving parts, motors and electronics in these systems, the custom doors needed to make the fire marshal happy, see #1 & #2.
4. Consider a less expensive tried and true manual roll-up system. These are much less expensive but will outlast any captured side system at a fraction of the price. This will afford your restaurant the ability to turn some tables before spending double on a system that is more problematic in the long run.
