This Semi-Antique Sarouk Square - 2’3 x 2’5 is about as close to a square as you’re ever going to find—if you’ve been looking, just buy it because I can’t promise another in this size for quite some time.

👉Woven around 1930 in the village weaving communities of the Sarouk district in west-central Iran, this little Sarouk maintains its original high pile giving the piece a plush, velvety hand and the deep, saturated color that is so often lost in rugs of this age. Scattered floral forms, including blossoms, leafy sprays, and curling vines, are drawn with the lively, slightly irregular line that distinguishes village work from the more formal city production of the region.

This newly listed 3'3 x 10'10 antique Seichour (various spellings) hails from Northeast Azerbaijan, with a distinct style and weave. This design and motif is my favorite from the region, a dazzling display centered on simplicity and minute changes.

👉The field motif shares a shape similar to gingko leaves, though it's more likely a stylized flower or palmette. Each flower has a slightly different color, both in the flower and the base. This is all set atop a rich indigo field.

The borders are equally interesting, both the interlocking/mirrored design and the scrolling floral vine. Excellent natural dyes throughout the rug.

*Note that the runner was shortened at one point. It is a solid joining, and I wouldn't worry about that area for use.

JUST LISTED 👉Antique 3D Senneh - 4’8 x 6’5

An intriguing old Senneh (N Persia) c. 1900 with fine knotting, a great presence, and a story to tell through its dyes.

☝️First off, all the darker areas have experienced corrosion resulting from the dye process often used in rugs from this period: an oxidizing mordant (to set the color in the dye process) that has resulted in this color wearing faster than others.

✌️Second, you can see a color transition in dark colors in the field; this is the result of the weaver working with small dye batches, and shows a second batch that used a different compound or less of the oxidizing mordant. The red in the rug complements the other colors nicely, despite it being an early synthetic and having previously bled into other areas (it is now set, so no worries there).

Another 🔥 rug dropping this weekend: Semi-Antique Ahar - 8’7 x 11’4

This heavy, pile-rich semi-antique Heriz offers a rusty field paired with a fantastically deep indigo border and central medallion. This rug will last your entire lifetime, and can handle any level of traffic. Floor ready, in great condition. The central medallion and weave hint toward an Ahar sub-group of Heriz.

Extremely durable, and a sub $3k price point including shipping—this rug is a sensible lifetime purchase. Note the length varies 131-136, giving a slight bend to the shape.

💪This antique Bijar exemplifies why these are known as the “iron rugs of Persia.” It sounds cheesy, until you’ve handled one of these rugs in person and realize that these are ideal heavy-traffic solutions.

👉Bijar rugs also happen to have some of the best, most original village/tribal designs, making them one of my top three rug producing regions.

I always tell customers that you won’t regret going with a Bijar. This is no exception.

I’m back! Tired but feeling great after a self-imposed month’s break from social media. A few reflections below👇

💡My self-employed or small business friends may resonate with the pressure to always be “on,” to be on the move and maximizing deliverables while neglecting the unseen and less forward-facing parts of life. Some call it careerism, a uniquely modern insecurity brought about by the rending of community, identity, and purpose.

🧵But that doesn’t lead to a well-rounded life, and time after time we see examples of lives slowly chipped away and broken by the endless grind, the prioritization of the opinions of others to the detriment of the good.

Life moves on, kids don’t stop growing up, and we all need community. Taking a break has allowed me space rightly order my priorities and get back into work with a healthy work-life balance.

I’m tired, but ready for a Fall full of rugs!
