Oops! 🤭 I forgot to post earlier this month, but I'm happy to be back at The Scrappy Elephant (Charlottesville) as part of their rotating selection of artists & artisans, The Artful Elephant! 🐘🎨🖌

The Scrappy Elephant is a creative reuse store and a wonderful community resource, run by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. 🥰 They keep your unwanted art and craft supplies out of the landfill by taking them off your hands and selling them at reasonable prices. Every time you go, you'll find something new to create with! They also offer regular workshops, events, and studio space to rent. 🧶🖍✂️🛢🪷

Stop by their Charlottesville location between now and the end of July to shop my prints and greeting cards! 💜

I often forget to take progress photos, but I'm glad I took a few this time. 📸

Once I added the background of sand, I thought I had ruined it! It looked flat and terrible. This is what artists call "the ugly stage." 🫣😂

Fortunately, a little shading was all it needed to come to life. I added a few splatters to give the sand more dimension, and it was done! 🖼

I painted this piece for my group (the monthly theme was shells 🐚 ) I've been a part of the group for a year and a half now, and it's been a really fun way to get myself out of my comfort zone of landscapes and try new subjects - I certainly never thought I'd paint or draw a flamingo, yet I did that last month! 🦩

Shout-out to the ladies of Group 38! ❤️

Recently, a very sweet person unexpectedly gave me some money to support my art. 🥹❤️ I wanted to do something special with it so I bought myself a small selection of . I chose colors that I wanted to use for clouds and sunsets, along with a few extra vibrant colors that spoke to me. When they arrived, they were so beautiful I had to give them their own little photoshoot! 📸

I'm still figuring out my painting style and process with pastels, and have followed a number of excellent tutorials on YouTube to help me learn different approaches. This cloud study was from a video by , whose bold mark-making I admire greatly. I can never seem to resist the urge to blend! 😂

It was a lovely project for testing out my new Terry Ludwigs, which lived up to their stellar reputation, and I'm so grateful to the person who made this purchase possible! ❤️❤️❤️

🦩 I'll be honest - I don't like flamingos. 😂 I mean have you seen their teeth?!? I think they're prehistoric-looking and mildly terrifying. But I found a striking photo reference of a flamingo in profile by Mathew Scwartz on Unsplash and decided to give it a shot. Watercolor didn't feel right so I used pastels instead. I'm actually pretty pleased with the result. I still hate flamingos, though. 😅

Swipe to see the talented and creative interpretations of our theme. 🥰

More stones, this time using negative painting. I painted the whole paper with random areas of green and purple, then formed the rocks by painting a dark brown over the background. I finished by adding some shadows and highlights to the rocks, and lifting out some areas of the darker brown to look like smaller pebbles or texture between the stones. I used some lovely granulating paints from for this piece. 🎨🖌😊

Happy New Year! 🥳 Here is my for 2025. I didn't paint as much as I would have liked, but I still feel like I grew as an artist. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey - whether you came to the opening of my joint exhibit in April, purchased a print or a calendar, said hello at a market, liked a post, or just encouraged me in some way, please know how much I appreciate you! ❤️
