TRUTH : More knife/hand injuries come from working with dull than sharp !!!

"Better be careful there chef, that knife is totally dull" 😏

I do a certain amount of my own sharpening, but a total "better than new" sharpening is a gift to yourself and your knives !!

Finally, I had a weekend day off to take most of my kit to and there my knives were brought back from the dead by knife necromancer Spijk from . Thank you Spijk πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Look for Rocky Hill Forge at local farmer's markets and other events this summer if you're in the 518 or give them a nice Instagram follow !

A rainy spring morning calls for egg drop soup, garnished with chives out of the garden and hot chili oil, in homemade stock.

Silky ribbons of egg, a little ginger, garlic, and a splash of soy sauce.

I'm still recovering from hand surgery, this time the left. I had the right done in February. I'm not going to lie, it is very frustrating to not be able to use your hands to their full extent. I have no other choice but to keep it simple.

One of the core catch phrases of any good kitchen....... KISS it, keep it simple stupid or (silly).

Bummer !!!! Who else filled their pantry with a sense of panic during the past 3 years ???? I'm guilty, too! As a chef, I can't stand the idea of running out of something I might need when inspiration hits.

But it happened, and now I'm slowly finding things in the pantry that need to be let go of.

Some of my pantry items might have been made in Europe or Australia and so their expiration code is different since it reads day, month, year. Our expiration dates are month, DAY, year.

It's a little confusing, but in general, if you think something is really old and you're dubious about it, is it really worth a few bucks? I recently ruined an entire dish because the noodles were rancid ! Not everything expires just because of an expiration date but that's a another conversation.

What other pandemic supplies are you okay with letting go of now?

Well............. someone asked where have I been, why aren't I posting???? Here I am in January of 2020, speaking at my local chamber of commerce....... then what happened???? The past three years!!! Like a lot of people, life changed dramatically. One big realization I experienced was that I was completely burnt out on marketing !!!

Being a solopreneur, I'm responsible for every single aspect of my business. After almost 18 years of self-promotion, I hit a wall.......hard. Normally it's just my regular depression that I have to manage but then came covid. A whole new level of paralyzation, an inability to get motivated, a total lack of ambition.

There have been major changes in my life and to adapt and overcome, I have had to rethink my professional life.

I am still a but have reduced my client load and have gone back to my culinary roots providing private chef services as well as working part-time as a cheese monger/barista/cafe cook/baker. It's been a change for the better, I didn't realize how very lonely I have been!

So despite a number of challenges, I'm hanging in there, moving forward and trying to find the right balance. Like so many others, it's hard work managing and but I feel it can only be helpful to be honest about mental health issues. It's probably one of the reasons I connect so well with my clients, since many of them are also challenged with mental issues.

So I'm hopeful for 2023 despite a rocky start ! If you've ever experienced depression you know one of the most powerful emotions is hopelessness. If you're suffering, reach out for help. It's not the easiest thing to admit but there are healthy treatments and some solutions that can be game changers.

Sorry for the blah, blah, blahs! May you be well, take care and be kind to yourself πŸ™

I'm blessed with the best clients !!!

"Julie is a marvel at organizing households. We moved into our new home recently, having downsized from a lot more space, and we were fortunate to be referred to Julie to help us unpack. Of course, we kept too much from our previous home and Julie helped us β€œlearn to let go” of unneeded belongings. She worked with us to ensure that everything that we unpacked had a specific place to land. Her energy level is amazing so our sessions together were highly productive. I am so pleased with Julie’s abilities, personal style, and willingness to help us with the hard work. I look forward to working with her again when we are faced with needing to reorganize. I can’t praise her enough!"

Two years ago, when it was a milestone anniversary of 15 years in business, we were in the middle of covid. I simply couldn't abide by posting something that seemed so very insignificant at such a time of worry and distress. Finally, it seems like a self-congratulatory celebration is in order.

In July of 2005, after 11 years of cooking professionally, I quit the last culinary job I had and decided I needed to be home more for my then teen-aged daughter. It wasn't an easy choice but the time was right.

I know I made the right decision looking back. While I might not have been there as freely when my daughter was little -little, the time was right for Mama bear to be much more available. I took on a home management job where I ended up doing nanny time as well as cooking and generally keeping a very busy family organized and on schedule! It was that client that exclaimed how much she loved the way I folded and organized her undergarments in a way that made her feel like she was shopping at Victoria's Secret and her suggestion, that I decided
I could be an organizer !

I had never heard of professional organizing before but after looking into the profession, it seemed right up my alley! The early years weren't also easy, for sure but I've managed to build a lovely client base and am happy to report that I've helped SO many needy clients over the year, new and old.

With MUCH gratitude and thanks to my many family and friends for support and encouragement over the years. Total appreciation goes to ALL of my clients, it's my pleasure to serve you and YOUR needs and goals.

Thanks to great organizing professional associations like ,
and .icd which I've been a member for many years!

I want to thank everyone for their support and appreciation! Nothing slowing down this service with our baby boomers aging! Sooner is better than later, no what your clutter situation may be!

It took time to accumulate it will take time to decimate. That's what I tell my clients when they are facing an entire house full of stuff that they haven't edited in many many years.

We just have to break down the big project into smaller, doable tasks. I act as the , cheering on client's decisions, helping us stay focused and on task, and helping with the heavy lifting.

Currently there are openings for August so now is a great time to get on the horn or the typey typey machine and finally tackle reclaiming space ! πŸ˜€ πŸ†πŸ†πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
