Dark pools can look incredible — but only if they’re designed the right way from the start.

Traditional plaster can show white calcium deposits over time, which becomes especially noticeable on black, navy, or charcoal finishes. That’s why the finish, equipment, and water chemistry all need to work together from day one.

When it’s done right, a dark pool creates a completely different look and adds serious contrast to the entire backyard.

An automatic pool cover is one of those upgrades that makes a lot more sense once you understand what it does for everyday pool ownership.

It adds another layer of safety, helps keep debris out, and makes opening and closing your pool a whole lot easier.

It’s not the flashiest feature in the design — but it can be one of the most practical.

The one upgrade people skip most often? A spa.

It can feel like the easiest thing to cut when the pool budget starts adding up, but adding it during the original build is far more efficient than trying to add one later.

You’re already sharing plumbing, equipment, and construction crews — and you end up with a backyard you can enjoy year-round, not just during pool season.

If you’re on the fence, it’s worth thinking about now instead of regretting it later.

Building the pool is only the beginning.

Between chemicals, routine maintenance, equipment servicing, and eventual resurfacing, pool ownership comes with ongoing costs that are important to understand before you break ground.

That doesn’t mean a pool isn’t worth it. It means you should know exactly what you’re investing in from the start.

The right pool can become the center of your family’s life for decades — and making the right decision starts with knowing the full picture.

Everyone obsesses over the pool. Almost nobody thinks about what they'll actually stand on.

That's a mistake — the deck is what you live on. It's what you walk across barefoot in July.

Here's what we work with: travertine and natural stone stay cool in the sun, which matters a lot in Tennessee summers. Concrete pavers are flexible and easy to repair if something cracks. Porcelain holds up well and doesn't need sealing.

We talk about decking on day one of the design process — not after the pool's built, when changing your mind gets expensive fast.

This homeowner loves mermaids — so we built one into their pool.

We placed a mosaic mermaid right in the center, then carried the theme through with iridescent glass tile along the waterline and down the swim lane. It mimics the shimmer of scales and catches the light beautifully in the sun.

One thing worth knowing: glass tile costs more than porcelain, and not just for the material. The underlayment and labor are different too, and it has to lay perfectly flat. We use products like Laticrete epoxy to make sure it never moves.

Three things we always cover before we break ground on a pool for a family with kids.

First, an automatic safety cover — motorized, strong enough to support weight, and it's on the pool anytime it's not in use.

Second, fencing — four feet minimum, a self-latching gate, and no foot holds for climbing.

Third, depth transitions — where the shallow end starts and how gradual the slope is. It matters more than most people realize.

A pool should be the best part of your backyard. Let's make sure it's the safest part too.

Three pool myths we hear all the time — and the truth behind them.

Myth: saltwater pools are chemical-free. They're not — the system just makes chlorine from the salt instead of you adding it by hand.

Myth: pools are a maintenance nightmare. If it's built and set up right, with good automation and the right chemistry, you're not fighting it every weekend. The horror stories come from pools built wrong from the start.

Myth: a pool won't add value to your home. In a market like Chattanooga, a well-built pool absolutely does. Buyers respond to outdoor living here.

If a pool quote comes in way lower than everyone else's, don't celebrate yet — here's what usually gets cut to get there.

The steel. There's a big difference between a rebar schedule built for 30 years and one that just checks the minimum box.

The concrete shell. We shoot ours at 10 inches minimum. Some builders go as low as six to save on materials and time — and thinner concrete cracks sooner.

The waterproofing. Done right, it's multiple steps with professional-grade products. Done cheap, it might be a single coat.

The equipment package. A cut-rate pump and filter might work for a few years — then you're replacing it.

The lowest quote almost always cuts what you can't see once the pool's in the ground — right where it matters most.
