How often should you paint your house? Great question! Exterior paint requires maintenance to protect the wood and your investment to stop expensive repairs in the future. How often depends on variables such as location, climate and more. In general, homeowners should expect to repaint their exterior siding every 7-10 years.

Exterior paint is expected to last 7-10 years depending on many different factors.

#1. PREP WORK: To have a surface properly prepared for final paint the surface must be cleaned with mold/mildew remover, free of debris, loose paint and a primer on all bare wood. (No a paint/primer combo dose not suffice in this situation.) If prep work is done incorrectly and nicely painted home can degrade drastically in just a few years resulting in expensive exterior repairs.

Just finished this AMAZING ceiling restoration from that orange burst texture which attracts dust too a beautifully smooth surface. The walls and staircase also got a facelift with Sherwin William's on every surface. The homeowner chose some neutral white tones for this hallway to help brighten it up. We put snowbound in the ceilings and trim with alabaster on the walls.

Changed this space so much!

TIP OF THE WEEK: One of the biggest issues DIY'ers have with staining their own logging home is that you cant just go by conventional exterior painting technique. Lap marks by not keeping a wet edge is much easier. Instead of being able to paint 6-10 clapboards at once and then moving over you need to stain just 2-3 full horizontal logs at once. It is not recommended to do vertical style painting. This can be very difficult for a homeowner to do on his own as that is a lot of times to move one ladder.
