🌿 Green Mountain Gardening 🌿
Great gardens start with smart decisions.
With over 20 years of experience, Green Mountain Gardening provides thoughtful, professional care including perennial planting and maintenance, shrub and ornamental tree pruning based on each species’ seasonal needs, organic nutrient applications, and beneficial insect programs.
We believe strongly in planting for maturity. Shrubs and especially trees take time to reach maturity, so choosing the right species for the right location from the beginning is essential. No one wants an aggressive root system near the septic tank—or a shrub that eventually blocks the view from your favorite window 😄.
Making the first right steps saves time, money, and frustration down the road. We enjoy sharing our passion and experience so clients can make confident, informed choices that lead to healthy, beautiful landscapes for years to come.
Reliable. Knowledgeable. Friendly.🌱 Gardening done right—from the start.

Are you adding nutrients or nitrogen based fertilizer to garden beds, trees or grass this spring? I suggest waiting for soil temperatures to reach 55-60 degrees. The reason for waiting is plants, trees and lawns should be focusing on root development in the early spring. When high levels of nitrogen are added too early plants focus on leaf devolpment instead of root development which can lead to stress. You can get a soil thermometer for $20-$50 at your local grow store, nursery or online. Happy growing season folks!

Before and After pictures of a beautiful garden install last summer. Proper soil, nutrients and water pushed these plants to more than triple their size within two months. This garden is full of pollinator plants and color all summer long making it quite the attraction for humminbirds, butterflies and bees.

Tent Caterpillars are out and about! These little buggers will strip all the foliage off a tree. If you have ornamental trees be on the lookout. If they are small in numbers cut the branches and dispose of them. If there are large numbers I always suggest an organic treatment especially when dealing with flowering species as to a harsh pesticide that kills important pollinators🐝🌻

Grafted trees take a beating around here, mostly due to improper planting and care. The wound from a tree being grafted to a root stock is the weakest point of the tree and most susceptible to harm. One tip that seems to fall through the cracks is facing your graph or wound to the North. This will keep the wound less exposed to sun and elements. This applies to both potted or burlaped nursury stock and homeonwers planting. Although there is plenty more to do when planting a tree i hope this information will help everyone. Happy growing season folks🌲🌹🌺🐝🍁
