⚠️ Deck Building Codes Update

Many homeowners and carpenters don’t realize that deck building codes were significantly updated in recent years, especially after COVID, due to a large number of decks being built improperly during the house-flipping boom.

As a result, today’s codes require stronger structural designs, proper metal connectors (structural hardware), improved ledger and post connections, and stricter railing and safety requirements.

The correct deck framing now also depends on the type of decking material being used, especially with composite and PVC boards.

Unfortunately, some builders still follow outdated methods, which can lead to safety risks and failed inspections.
