The last one has created the biggest return by far!
1- Quoting is a skill that can make or break your margins.
Quote too high-> the customer goes with your competitor.
Quote too low-> you start working for free
Quote just right-> your costs are taken care of, the business makes money, and you provide a great service for a customer.
Make the invisible work visible. Tell them that you’ll send a text when enroute, tell them that you broom sweep after every job, explain what happens once the truck leaves the driveway and actually follow through.
2- Some days are slower than others… those are your days to work ON the business rather than IN the business.
It’s very tempting to finish a slow day, acknowledge you made decent money, and then clock out for the rest of the day. I’m guilty of it.
But I quickly realized if I can’t be trusted with the time I get off the truck now, then I don’t deserve to be off the truck permanently in the future.
3- Numbers don’t care about feelings
This comes from JT Junk Solutions | Kyle, TX Junk Removal directly.
“I feel like I close about 50% of my Google leads”
“I think my margins are about 30%”
“My CAC is probably $40”
How do you implement change to directly impact these metrics if you don’t know them first? Simple answer is you can’t.
You can guess, but how much risk are you willing to tolerate on a guess?
What happens if you build a 30 day plan to improve any of these metrics and the information was incorrect to begin with?
The answer- You spend time working on parts of your business that may not even need attention.
Personal Example- I thought my close rate on leads was bad because of emotion but once I calculated the numbers, I found out I had a 71% close rate and that closing leads was not my actual bottleneck. By not knowing that number sooner and instead operating on feeling, I’ve spent time and money trying to fix a problem that isn’t actually there.
So what KPI(s) do you track in your business? Is it a guess or is it fact? How have you used that knowledge to implement change?
