🧐🤓Not that you asked, but…..as a boutique owner, here are the hills I will die on! What are yours?
Leave a comment about what I may have missed❣️
⭐️You must regularly clean your shop or store. It’s noticeable if it’s dirty and it will hurt your business. The cobwebs🕸️, the carpets, the bathroom, the shelves.
🇺🇸You can’t guilt people into coming to your with “buy local”. That’s not enough. You need to create something special, differentiated, and unique. It’s your job to offer a beautiful space and a meaningful shopping experience.
🤝You must greet each and every person. It’s rude if you don’t, and gives a feeling of snobbery or worse, creates an elitist impression that gives people the “ick”.
💧Don’t cry on social media. (Unless your boutique burns to the ground, or you are robbed). But generally speaking, crying on social media is a slippery slope.
🍿Stay away from pop culture wars, politics, and other divisive or sensitive topics on your socials. If you wouldn’t say it to someone when they walk into your store, don’t post it on social media. Ask yourself, “Would Chanel say this on their page?” If not, then don’t do it.
📷Post gorgeous photographs and videos of your store and products. Every boutique owner should have the latest iPhone because you can achieve the highest quality photos that way. With good, natural light.
👋Ask for and/or accept help from friends and family. I was shocked at how many people wanted to help me with even the smallest, mundane tasks. Especially in the beginning, or during seasonal shop switches!
😀Put yourself on your socials if you can. Show people why something is valuable or unique. Show the pieces that are your favorites, and share decorating knowledge. (I’m still working on this, it’s very hard for me).
👂Listen to your employees and customers. Your employees see everything👀, and might know more than you do about the day to day. Your customers will tell you what they want and you should listen and act.
