🚨 I’LL NEVER FORGET THE MORNING SHE SHOWED US HER DREAM BATHROOM TILE AND MY CARPENTER AND I JUST LOOKED AT EACH OTHER. 😂 🚨
This bathroom goes back to somewhere around 2019, and with Halloween here, I couldn’t help but pull this picture back out.
At America’s Construction Experts, most of our bathroom projects are what we call install client provided.
We handle the actual building materials because most homeowners shouldn’t have to figure out what drywall they need, what size shutoff valves to buy, or which plumbing fittings are hiding behind their walls.
When it comes to the fun stuff like tile, grout, fixtures and finishes, we create a master shopping list, answer questions and help along the way, but ultimately we want the homeowner picking what they love.
That makes job-start morning almost like Christmas for us.
You’ve already spent your money, everything is sitting there in boxes, and now we finally get to see what we’re actually installing.
On this particular morning, the homeowner could not have been more excited.
She started opening everything and explaining that she loved Halloween and horror, and when she found this tile, she immediately saw spider webs.
Then she explained that there was a very specific way she wanted the pattern to flow through the shower.
I looked at my carpenter.
He looked back at me.
Oh, s**t. 😂
Not because we didn’t like it.
This tile was just going to be an absolute bitch to install correctly.
Once the homeowner left the room, we had our little “good luck” conversation and started figuring out exactly how this pattern needed to be laid out.
Eventually, that meant pulling up a YouTube video, reading the installation instructions and making damn sure we understood how every piece connected before we ever put one on her wall.
There’s no ego in craftsmanship.
If we encounter something we haven’t installed before, we’re going to learn exactly how the manufacturer intended it to be done before experimenting with somebody else’s money.
Especially in a bathroom.
For most homeowners, this isn’t something they’re going to tear apart and redo every couple of years. They saved for it, dreamed about it, picked everything out and may only get one opportunity to make it exactly what they wanted.
Years later, I still remember this homeowner explaining those spider webs to us.
I also remember two guys standing in that bathroom staring at a pile of tile and thinking…
“How in the hell are we going to make all these damn spider webs line up?” 😂🕷️
