When I lived in LA and worked as a Senior Designer for Kelly Wearstler, I had the opportunity to work on the Austin Proper Hotel. Coming back now feels a little like coming home. I loved the team and the people who brought it to life. Patty, especially, thinking of you. ❤️
Sometimes you find yourself in the right place at the right time, and you don’t fully understand what it means until years later.
On the plane back to Chicago, I wrote myself a letter. Part of it said: What if all of those left turns were actually the right turns? What if success was only the beginning of something so much bigger?
In 10 years, I’ll come back to this post and let you know.
Now, that’s Proper! With gratitude. 🙏🏻

*Paris* Eliza from our team is in Paris this week, allowing us to be two places at once. Discovering special pieces for a project, or architectural details that inspire a new concept for a residential space. It’s thrilling to go from a site meeting in Chicago to connecting with the team across the world in Paris and see which pieces might find a new home to tell their story. Grateful for our talented team and wonderful clients ♥️

Awards have never been the main goal, but they are a sign that the design process we’ve built is supporting our artistic vision.

Last night, this project received 1st Place in the ASID National Design Excellence Awards for Contract Under 5,000 SF.

Incredibly proud of our team - Anna, Eliza, Lillia and Kendall along with those who contribute regularly and help make this design work possible.

This Hinsdale office will always be a special project for us — a study in materiality, art, and the details that make a space feel personal.

Thank you to our clients, to Triad Art Group for filling the space with an incredible collection of art, and to Los Angeles-based photographer Matt Schulte for capturing the project and these moments in time so beautifully.

Honored to have this work recognized. Congratulations to all of the designers celebrated last night, and a special thank you to ASID and the contributing sponsors who make this possible including the Merchandise Mart.

*The Design Process* In honor of our 3rd time included in the Hinsdale Living Power Women magazine… we wanted to celebrate the process of making… the collaboration, craftsmanship, and creative process that happens when different disciplines come together.

Fashion designer and creative director Donovan of Donovan Laux, a fellow School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum, made this suit using one of our bespoke LAA Atelier fabrics.

I see fashion, art, interior design and architecture as part of one continuous creative language… sharing craft and self-expression. When you feel good in what you wear or in the environment around you, it can change the way you move through and experience your life on a daily basis.

We believe there is value in making things with intention. Working with skilled makers, developing materials from the beginning, and giving a project the time to evolve creates a deeper connection to the finished work. For us, making is not simply about the object itself, but about the process, the people, and the story held within it.

Collaboration has always been central to our practice. Bringing together different perspectives, skills, and points of view allows the work to become something greater than what any one person could create alone.
