October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month- and across Chicago, our communities are under siege. Just days ago, federal agents conducted a military-style raid in a South Shore apartment building: rappelling from helicopters, tossing flashbangs, forcing doors open. Witnesses say children were zip-tied and even stripped during the chaos.
When systems terrorize people instead of protecting them, silence is a betrayal. So we show up. We’ve partnered with a community nonprofit that runs three domestic violence & sexual assault support centers across Chicago- safe houses, counseling hubs, spaces for healing. When those spaces break or falter, we step in.
We’ve patched walls, fixed HVAC & plumbing, assembled furniture, set up childcare rooms, rebuilt areas- using our hands and our craft to keep those centers alive. We do it because our work is real power and a stand against mediocrity. Because our platform is more than followers- it’s community potential. Because tradespeople can build more than walls: we can help build dignity, trust, sanctuary.
This isn’t easy work. But how dare we not do it. Being a Chicago business rooted in grace and values means we don’t wait for permission, we don’t stay still or quiet. We act. Mi gente. Mi vida. This is how we show up.
