Color has entered the chat. 🎨

We’re moving beyond the predictable neutral palette. Deep reds and plums bring richness and sophistication without feeling overly formal, and I especially love them paired with warm woods, natural stone, and aged metals. Yellow is getting more interesting too, with deeper, muddier ochre alongside sharper citron shades that add energy without feeling overly bright or playful.

Hard No: open floor plans. 🚫

Everyone wants one because it photographs well and sounds modern. But not every home needs it. Walls exist for a reason: sound control, defined function, and actual privacy. Knocking one down doesn’t automatically make a home better.

Open concept isn’t a rule. It’s a choice, and not always the right one.

A bathroom isn't just function. It's where your day actually starts.

Bold geometric wallpaper in green and gold. Brass fixtures that catch the light from every angle. Walnut cabinetry with enough drawers to make organization effortless. Even the mirrors are placed to reflect the shower tile, turning every glance into a moment.

Unfiltered with Marcus: the vendor secrets nobody talks about.

Not every fabricator is created equal. Not every "in stock" material actually ships on time. The relationships behind a project matter as much as the design decisions. This means knowing who to call, who to trust, and who quietly saves a timeline when something goes wrong.

Good design isn't just taste. It's knowing the industry well enough to get it built right.

Things you might not notice are done with a purpose.

The mirrored coffee table reflects the room instead of blocking it. Two mirrors, not one, so the room feels layered, not repeated. Mismatched vessels on purpose, so the console feels collected, not purchased as a set. The lamps sized to the art, not the corners.

Everything is intentional. Even the things you never noticed.

Why you should rethink a TV above the fireplace.

It seems convenient, but it forces you to crane your neck up every time you watch it, and it turns the fireplace — the room's natural focal point — into a mounting bracket. There's almost always a better wall for the TV, even if it takes more planning to find it.

Not every convenient choice is the right one.

Our client said, "I feel like we don't need all of that." Are all these parts really necessary?

Yes. Every single one. Well, the way we do things.

The patterned tile over the plain wall. The two-tone desk over the flat one. The bold graphic wallpaper over the solid color. Take any of it away, and the room loses its edge — it just becomes safe.

Nothing here is decoration for decoration's sake. Every part is doing a job.
