We were honored to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Haven on Lincoln, transforming the former Diplomat Motel into a supportive transitional housing designed with care, privacy, and community in mind. We are proud to see this vision realized and excited for the impact Haven on Lincoln will have across Chicago.

Congratulations to the entire project team on reaching this incredible milestone and thank you Lee Bey for the wonderful article in Chicago Sun-Times highlighting the vision behind this important work. Say hello to our May Plant of the Month: Carolina Rose (rosa carolina)!🌹

The Carolina Rose, also known as Pasture Rose, is a hardy native shrub known for its soft pink blooms and bright red rose hips — the fruit of the rose plant — that appear in the fall. Beyond its beauty, it plays an important role in supporting local wildlife, attracting bees and butterflies while providing food for migrating birds through fall and winter. Its dense, thorny branches also create shelter and nesting space for birds and small animals.

✨Fun Facts:
+ Carolina Rose is one of only 35 rose species native to North America out of more than 350 rose species worldwide.
+ Rose Hips are high in vitamin C and are often used in tea, jams, and jellies.
+ Despite their delicate appearance, they are drought-tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions.

🌱 Go check out the Carolina Rose at the Field Museum of Natural History and the Burnham at Woodlawn Park!

Rolling into West Garfield Park's newest community gathering space!🛼✨

The final phase of the West Garfield Park Community Plaza & Roller Rink has officially opened, transforming an underutilized site into a dynamic gathering space for youth, teens, and the surrounding community. The new plaza features a stage, seating areas, play spaces, hang out corners, and public art instillations surrounding the roller rink as part of the Mayor's neighborhood Activation Initiative.

Thank you to the community, our project team, and everyone who helped bring this vibrant space to life.

Thank you to all the wonderful people at Johnson's Nursery for giving our team a tour of their awesome operations at both the Menomonee Falls headquarters and Jackson Farm locations.

It was great getting to see the range of growing processes from their seed storage space to their field-grown specimens. We loved seeing some of the innovations they are using, such as self-root-pruning containers and grow bags.

Thank you again for spending the day with our team and showcasing your amazing plants!🌳🌱

Sheyla Chevarria is a Site Designer at Site Design Group, with a strong interest in cities, public space, and how the built environment shapes human experience. She holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from Catholic University of Santa María in Arequipa, Peru.

Learn more about Sheyla below:

+ What led you to Site or this career track?
I’ve always been interested in how the public realm shapes people’s everyday lives in cities. When I was looking for a place to work, I was drawn to the community-grounded work in Chicago and how deeply rooted the office is in the city. I was lucky to start here as an intern and continue full-time after finishing my master's studies.

+ What has been your favorite work moment since joining the firm?
All the community engagement events I’ve been part of. Hearing directly from people about their experiences in their communities is enriching. There’s always something new to learn from it.

+ What projects are you currently involved in, and what excites you most about them?
I’m currently working on two projects with the Chicago Department of Planning and Development, focused on studying and proposing a vision and implementation framework for urban-scale improvements along the city's southwest and northwest corridors. I joined right as these projects were kicking off, so it’s been exciting to be part of all the phases and start to see where these areas could go.

+ What is your favorite outdoor space, and why?
In Chicago, definitely the Riverwalk. I love how much it changes through the seasons: from being super active and vibrant in the summer to being quieter and covered in snow. Also, special shoutout to Riverwalk East, designed by Site Design Group.

+ What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Photography is my favorite hobby, but lately, I'm inspired by the "make group" in the office. I’ve also been getting into pottery. I’ve been playing with clay and glazing at a local studio in Chicago, and I absolutely love it.

+ What is your favorite travel destination or dream trip?
Going back to visit Peru will always be my favorite trip.

We are excited to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Downtown Community Park in Glen Ellyn!

This milestone marks the beginning of a vibrant community-focused destination that will serve as a welcoming gathering space for Glen Ellyn's residents, commuters, visitors, and Prairie Path users. Designed to support connection, activity, and year-round programming, the park will serve as a dynamic civic hub in the heart of downtown.

Congratulations to the entire project team on this exciting step! Glen Ellyn Park District, V3 Companies, ACGI, and EP Doyle & Son, LLC
